Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Gynuity health projects works to develop and advocate for the use of scientific, clinical and programmatic evidence in reproductive and maternal health, assuring that each individual benefits from the fruits of medical science and technology.

Gynuity's approach starts at the community level where we listen to women, providers and policymakers, and work with them to create services that are safe, of high quality and more person-centered. Through conversations and active collaborations with partners on-the ground, we fill evidence gaps by using basic science research, clinical research, implementation research to achieve proof of concept for new models of care. We use this information to influence change and advocate for improvements in policy and practice.

IRS990/Desc0GYNUITY HEALTH PROJECTS HAS BEEN AT THE FOREFRONT OF GLOBAL RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY EFFORTS TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO HIGH-QUALITY, SIMPLE, MEDICAL ABORTION MA SERVICES. IN 2020, WE HAD A NUMBER OF APPROACHES OR POLICIES FOR DE-MEDICALIZED ABORTION ADOPTED BY PROVIDER ORGANIZATIONS OR GOVERNMENTS. GYNUITY'S U.S. TELABORTION STUDY AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NO-TEST PROTOCOL PLAYED AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN ENSURING ACCESS TO ABORTION DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC. WE CREATED ONLINE TRAINING RESOURCES, TOOLKITS AND CLINICAL PRACTICE SUMMARIES FOR MEDICAL ABORTION PROVIDERS TO SUPPORT TASK-SHARING STRATEGIES, PROMOTE STREAMLINED SERVICE DELIVERY APPROACHES, INCLUDING CONTRACEPTIVE ACCESS AFTER MEDICAL ABORTION, AND SHARE EVIDENCE-BASED INFORMATION ON ABORTION WITH PILLS. WE CONFIRMED THE FEASIBILITY OF TELEMEDICINE MEDICAL ABORTION SERVICES OUTSIDE THE U.S. INCLUDING IN MEXICO, ECUADOR AND NEPAL. WE EXPLORED ALTERNATIVE INDICATIONS FOR MIFEPRISTONE AND WE LAUNCHED A NEW STUDY ON THE MISSED PERIOD PILL. WE PUBLISHED SEVERAL NEW JOURNAL ARTICLES THAT SUMMARIZE THE RESULTS FROM THIS WORK.GYNUITY HEALTH PROJECTS ALSO WORKS WITH PARTNERS GLOBALLY ON PROMISING INTERVENTIONS TO IMPROVE THE DIAGNOSIS AND MANAGEMENT OF PREECLAMPSIA AND POSTPARTUM HEMORRHAGE (PPH). IN 2020, WE COMPLETED A LANDSCAPE ASSESSMENT OF THE AVAILABILITY OF BLOOD PRESSURE DEVICES AND ANTIHYPERTENSIVE MEDICATIONS IN UGANDA, MEXICO, AND INDIA TO UNDERSTAND PROVIDER AND FACILITY READINESS FOR MANAGEMENT OF PREGNANCY-INDUCED HYPERTENSION IN LOW AND MIDDLE INCOME COUNTRIES. WE LAUNCHED A NEW STUDY IN INDIA THAT COMPARES THE RELATIVE RISKS AND BENEFITS OF USING DIFFERENT UTEROTONIC AGENTS DURING THE LABOR INDUCTION PROCESS IN WOMEN WITH HYPERTENSION DURING PREGNANCY. WE PUBLISHED RESULTS FROM STUDIES THAT EVALUATED INNOVATIVE APPROACHES THAT CAN AID IN PROMPT RECOGNITION AND CLINICAL CARE OF WOMEN AT RISK OF EXPERIENCING A LIFE-THREATENING COMPLICATION, INCLUDING NEW RESEARCH ON A DIAGNOSTIC SCREENING TEST FOR PREECLAMPTIC WOMEN AND NEW MODELS OF CARE USING MISOPROSTOL TO PREVENT AND TREAT PPH.
