Mission and Program Overview

Mission

We use a place led approach to create a profitable neighborhood development and housing master plan. We are committed to following a community-driven process to connect two distinct neighborhoods. This approach will leverage the assets of each to build one growing community. The power of placemaking is demonstrated by forging community partnerships and collaborations countering community skepticism, ensuring neighborhood maintenance and sustainability. We organize, empower and involve residents and community partners currently separated by the Inner Loop to create a cohesive neighborhood using an engaged, transparent and inclusive planning process for executing the Inner Loop North plan. Our values of community, communication, creation, compassion & equity will guide this work. The result will be an interconnected community of residents and business owners working together to create and sustain a thriving neighborhood.

Marketview Mews: Placemaking initiatives serve as catalysts for community building and neighborhood connectivity. By aligning with the Rochester 2034 Comprehensive Plan, particularly focusing on pedestrian-friendly designs, creating aesthetically pleasing spaces, and bolstering multi-modal travel, we intend to create vibrant, inclusive environments that celebrate local assets and strengthen neighborhood ties. While we are waiting for the Inner Loop North Project to unfold over the next 2 years, it is essential to keep our neighbors involved and aware of the project. The Marketview Mews Project is designed to do just that while activating Bohrer Alley which presently is unsafe, harbors people who are engaged in illegal activities, encourages speeding traffic, and unhealthy dumping. We will create awareness and clean up the alley influencing the City, owners and landlords, especially Pathstone and Rochester Health Authority to do their duty for the residents whose properties border on the alley. We have been able to get the City of Rochester and Pathstone to trim the vegetation that was blocking light. Constant communication with the City of Rochester has decreased dumping and time to clean up any dumping. We have installed some test solar lighting to see which is most effective so that we can install and purchase lights that work and do not contribute to anyone's cost of electricity. We will continue to encourage and educate residents on advocating for themselves and have provided 2 murals using local artists and have plans for several more as funds are freed for this effort. We will continue to include residents in visioning the future for placemaking and building community while we explore housing initiatives while discouraging displacement. The alley activation has a budget of $103,400. We have secured a promise of $50,000 from ESL Foundation once we match this amount with other grants. We have secured $25,000 from the Greater Rochester Health Foundation, $10,000 from donations and now have secured a promise of $100,000 from LISCNY which will secure the rest of the matching for this programming while allowing us to build capacity to implement the project and plan for thehousing initiative.$0$6,905
Community Development: We presented to the city the possibilities of 46 Weld Street and they allowed us to have control on the lot for 2 years while we develop plans for building 4 units and finding a way to purchase the next door lot. We have met with funders, banks and foundations to help us with this process and intend on culminating our plans in 2025/2026.$0$634
