Mission

The william winter institute for racial reconciliation (wwi) works in communities, organizations, and classrooms, in mississippi and beyond, to support a movement of equity and wholeness as a pathway to ending and transcending all division and discrimination based on differences. Wwi works to promote racial reconciliation, equity, and civic engagement through advocacy, consultation, education, and shared learning. Wwi does this work via its three programmatic pillars of community and capacity building, policy and civic engagement, and youth engagement. Each pillar works toward the goal of racial equity and is born from an interconnected process of open and honest communication, relationship building, and truth-telling about systemic inequities that exist in communities. This approach fosters a change that begins with individual healing, which unlocks the capacity for civic engagement focused on community-wide equity, positive social change, and improved quality of life.

A draft of the form 990 is provided to the executive director who then sends a copy to all members of the board of directors via email. The form 990 is reviewed and any questions that arise from board members are addressed as needed prior to the filing of the return.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Each employee and board member is required to disclose any conflict of interest. Each member of the governing body is required to complete an annual questionaire regarding any interest that could give rise to a conflict. After disclosure of the financial interest and all material facts, and after any discussion with the interested person, such person shall leave the board of directors or committee meeting while the determination of a conflict of interest is discussed and voted upon. The remaining directors or committee members shall decide if a conflict of interest exists.

The executive director uses a salary scale for all employee positions that are anticipated to be needed for operations, and then all compensation is approved by the board of directors. The executive director compensation is approved by the board of directors.

Accounting standards require the organization to evaluate tax positions and recognize a tax liability (or asset) if the organization has taken an uncertain position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by the internal revenue service. As of december 31, 2023, there are no uncertain positions taken or expected to be taken that would require the recognition of a liability (or asset) or disclosure in the financial statements. The organization may be subject to audit by the internal revenue service; however, there are currently no audits in progress.
