ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0The reasonable cause is the following: Serious Illness/Incapacitation. As the individual responsible for the preparation and filing of our Form 990-EZ, I exercised ordinary business care and prudence, but I was unable to file on time due to circumstances beyond my control: Lumbago, levoescoliosis and spinal disc compression, which was already diagnosed by my doctor. I was out of the country in Chile beginning in December and my medical incapacitation due to severe back pain made me unable to travel back to the U.S. before April. Upon my arrival I had to attend to critical organizational duties, including participation in the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues for 2 weeks. The demanding schedule and requirements of this commitment further delayed my ability to dedicate sufficient time to the complex task of preparing the Form 990-EZ. Despite these significant and unavoidable obstacles, I have worked diligently to finalize the return as soon as it was physically and logistically possible. We have a good compliance history otherwise, we hope we can qualify for First-Time Abate relief or Penalty abatement. Thank you.
