“The review of the organization's IRS Form 990 includes a comprehensive board-level overview and a cross-comparison with the accounting software platform managed by the finance team. This process ensures transparency, accuracy, and alignment with internal financial records and reporting practices. Steps in the Review Process: Initial Preparation The draft Form 990 is prepared by the organization's accountant or external tax preparer using financial data exported from the accounting software. Internal Financial Review The finance manager or software platform administrator cross-checks the numbers reported in the 990 with the internal accounting system for consistency in revenue, expenses, and asset reporting. Board Review and Oversight The full board or finance committee receives a copy of the draft Form 990. Key areas are reviewed, including compensation disclosures, program accomplishments, governance practices, and compliance questions. Board members are encouraged to ask questions and recommend changes where needed. Final Reconciliation and Edits Any discrepancies or concerns raised during the review are addressed. Adjustments are made in consultation with the tax preparer and finance lead to ensure the final version is accurate. Board Approval The final Form 990 is formally approved or acknowledged by the board prior to submission. The board's acknowledgment is documented in meeting minutes. Submission and Public Disclosure The completed Form 990 is filed with the IRS. A copy is posted publicly (e.g., on the organization's website or Guidestar) to maintain transparency.”
“Our organization implements several strategies to monitor and enforce compliance with their conflict of interest policies. Key individuals, such as officers, directors, and employees, must disclose any relationships or interests that could lead to conflicts, typically through certification and disclosure forms. They ensure that all relevant personnel receive, read, and understand the policy, often requiring them to certify their agreement to comply. Compliance is monitored consistently through periodic reviews or audits, which helps identify potential conflicts and ensure adherence. The policy also outlines steps to manage conflicts, such as recusal from decision-making processes or taking corrective actions. Additionally, all disclosures and actions taken to address conflicts are thoroughly documented to ensure transparency and demonstrate compliance to regulatory bodies.”
“The organization utilized a formal process last year to establish the compensation of the Executive Director, ensuring compliance with IRS guidelines and best practices for reasonable compensation. This process involved a comprehensive review and approval by the governing body, consideration of comparable data from similar organizations in 2022-23, and thorough documentation of the deliberations and decisions made. The process highlights the organization's commitment to transparency and accountability in determining compensation for its key positions.”
“During the tax year, our governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements were made available to the public. These materials were accessible upon request and were also posted on the GuideStar website.”
“Ball is Life was postponed this year due to the increased responsibilities and expansion of ICAN”

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 1 | The review of the organization's IRS Form 990 includes a comprehensive board-level overview and a cross-comparison with the accounting software platform managed by the finance team. A copy is posted publicly (e.g., on the organization's website or Guidestar) to maintain transparency. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 2 | Our organization implements several strategies to monitor and enforce compliance with their conflict of interest policies. Additionally, all disclosures and actions taken to address conflicts are thoroughly documented to ensure transparency and demonstrate compliance to regulatory bodies. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 3 | The organization utilized a formal process last year to establish the compensation of the Executive Director, ensuring compliance with IRS guidelines and best practices for reasonable compensation. This process involved a comprehensive review and approval by the governing body, consideration of comparable data from similar organizations in 2022-23, and thorough documentation of the deliberations and decisions made. The process highlights the organization's commitment to transparency and accountability in determining compensation for its key positions. |
| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 4 | During the tax year, our governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements were made available to the public. These materials were accessible upon request and were also posted on the GuideStar website. |
