Highlights from the busy year included: *Cinema - Friday night date night movies Wednesday "Seasoned Citizens" matinees Sunday childrens movies; *Theater - Community theater murder mystery performances community theater musicals community theater plays comedy acts; *Music - Live performances featuring bands and artists representing classical jazz choral blues 80s pop 50s 60s 70s favorites rock and folk genres; *Education - Workforce training and seminars grant workshops academic lectures documentary presentations elementary field trips academic award programs speech and debate team showcase; *Civic - Meet the Candidate nights regional mayors roundtable service club meetings and fundraisers Chamber of Commerce awards museum events; and *Celebrations - high school prom graduation parties holiday parties class reunions wedding events. For each happening at The REES volunteers welcomed the community serving as ushers concessions workers and post-event cleaners. Paid audio-visual technicians and artistic directors ensured that presentations at The Rees were of a high caliber. Even when not hosting an event or program The Rees Theatre serves as a center for community connection. The restored lighted marquee continues to enhance the downtowns streetscape announcing community events messages of support and celebration and as an official Marshall County emergency messaging board messages of public importance. Individuals and groups may sponsor their own marquee posts to publicize non-profit events proclaim happy occasions or commemorate milestones. Such sponsorships offset the operating costs for the brilliant signage. The Rees Theatre looks forward to 2024 and another year of bringing the community together to celebrate arts education culture and milestones. |

Sadly in 2009 the 1940 Art Deco theatre closed and fell into disrepair. Recognizing the value of the building as an important cultural and historic landmark for the people of Plymouth and Marshall County a group of concerned citizens began meeting in 2016 and 2017 to explore how to bring the Rees Theatre back to life as a center for arts culture and education. In 2018 the Rees Theatre Inc. commenced the multi-phased restoration renovation and repurposing work on the building. The organization worked with architects engineers audio-visual experts and construction professionals for four years and proudly reopened the Rees Theatre doors to the public in October 2022. 2023 saw a few finishing touches being added to the restored theatre as well as final consultations with engineers architects and AV experts. Mechanical repairs and routine maintenance also took place in 2023. |
