Mission

The current media was created by experienced journalists to address a shortfall of in-depth, thoughtful journalism in this area. Further, lafayette and the broader acadiana region lack local ownership among its media organizations. Virtually all of the publishers and broadcasters in this area are owned by interests located outside of the city, many outside of the state. It is vital to preserve locally owned information outlets for the sake of local democracy. The current media's primary activity is publishing high quality, in-depth journalism and tools of civic engagement online and via email.

The current media was created by experienced journalists to address a shortfall of in-depth, thoughtful journalism in this area. Further, lafayette and the broader acadiana region lack local ownership among its media organizations. Virtually all of the publishers and undercurrent awards honor 'wavemakers' who help move the lafayette community forward and demonstrate selflessness, creativity and a vision for a better lafayette.
