We help developing communities in rural Zambia through education and health by: Financing new school facilities, donating books and educational materials, funding wells and boreholes and collaborating with NGO's and local organizations.
| Description | Grants | Expenses |
|---|---|---|
| Makolekole boreholes: We work closely with Makolekole, a locally run drilling company with a small rig which can access remote villages and clinics. We financed 7 boreholes from individual donors in 2024, changing the lives of approximately 2,500 people. The dry season lasts almost eight months, when no rain falls and the rivers dry up, forcing local women and children to walk up to 3 miles a day to find water. By providing clean, fresh water, we are keeping them from danger of attacks from wild animals, protecting them from water-borne illnesses and allowing the children time to attend schools or make-shift classes in the wild. | - | $45,500 |
| Student Sponsorship: Families in communities living in poverty in rural Zambia struggle to send children to school. Although the government now covers tuition, students still need uniform, shoes, socks, exercise books, pens and pencils. As pupils progress through the grades they need maths sets and scientific calculators, and all of this is beyond the financial means of many rural families who survive by subsistence farming. The children who are accepted into the sponsorship scheme may be orphans or classed as vulnerable. Some have parents who are too ill to work or grow enough crops to be able provide an income as well as food for the family. The scholarship program provides students in rural Zambia with the tools and materials needed to go through secondary school, rather than being forced to stay home with all which that entails (working on the farm, having families as teenagers and having no hope for change). 11 students were sponsored at Secondary School level as well as 1 at university level during 2024. | - | $44,769 |
| Project Luangwa - Supporting education in rural Zambia: Many schools suffered this year due to unseasonable storms and an unrelenting drought. With our funding in 2024 Project Luangwa was able to: - Provide new shelves, piping, locks, painting and maintenance for Kapita Primary School- Support the Kapita community by building a new Early Years classroom and dining hall - Repair school roofs at Nsefu, Chiutika, Mfuwe and Mphomwa - Repair Chiwawatala Primary School including plastering and electrics - Support Kapita and Mwandaksiano with new piping for their boreholes - Provide 40 refurbished desks for the new ICT center at Chiwawatala - Provide a donation to Chikowa Technical College to support their operations- Pay for volunteer salaries at Kapita so that every class has a teacher Digital Learning:With our funding we helped to expand the digital learning project to all of the students at Kapita School. We also were able to bring in a dedicated Digilearn coach to work with all the 7 teachers at Kapita to enhance their IT skills. This expansion of digital learning meant a vast improvement in test scores and an overall improvement across all grades. | - | $18,000 |
| Chikowa Vocational Training School: Chikowa Youth Development Centre is a vocational training school, preparing young people as carpenters, electricians, auto-mechanics, masons and most recently cooks and tailors! We finished financing the building of teacher housing for two of the teachers and their families. We also paid for the purchase and installation of solar panels to support the school during the power outages (drought and climate change are affecting the massive reservoir in Zambia which is at 6%). | - | $16,470 |
