IRS990ScheduleA/Form990ScheduleAPartVIGrp/ExplanationTxt02024 Fundraising Efforts While the Saia Employee Relief Foundation (the foundation) has traditionally had a banner on its internal employee website describing the foundation and pointing individuals to its contribution form and application, the foundation has had difficulty in establishing an efficient means for the receipt of contributions from the public. After the foundation hired a new treasurer in late 2022, one of the treasurer's projects for 2023 was to facilitate receiving and distributing funds through the foundation's bank accounts. The foundation also worked on setting up the appropriate security measures so that online donors could donate with the confidence that their information would remain confidential and secure. These efforts in setting up the foundation for ongoing contributions have resulted in an increased public charity percentage in tax-year 2024. As stated on the foundation's Form 990, Part III, the mission of the foundation is to provide assistance in connection with natural disasters or other emergencies that result in hardship to one or more employees of Saia, Inc. and its affiliated companies and their family members, including Hurricane Harvey. Due to the nature and purpose of the foundation, it typically sees an increase of employee-related contributions around natural disasters, as the foundation was initially established after a devastating hurricane. There were no significant natural disasters in the foundation's community during 2024, so it received minimal employee contributions. The foundation was also established to provide assistance to employees dealing with hardships, and the foundation has made efforts to emphasize and make that aspect of its exempt purpose clearer to its employees during 2024. 2024 Fundraising Plans and Continuous and Bona Fide Program for Solicitation of Funds The foundation was able to create an online link within its employee portal in 2023, and started to receive an influx of contributions from employees in 2024. Additionally, the foundation sent communications discussing the purpose of the foundation and reminding employees that they can apply for hardship aid outside of natural disasters. The foundation also anticipates including a link to the donation page on its main website, which is accessible to the general public. With all of these new strategies in place, the organization has achieved a 19.55% public charity percentage for its tax year ending in 2024, with expectations for further growth in its tax year ending in 2025. 2025 Fundraising Plans and Continuous and Bona Fide Program for Solicitation of Funds The foundation will benefit from a contribution campaign starting in the month of November of 2025 to encourage contributions during the Season of Giving. The campaign and Season of Giving will be communicated with the Board of Directors, requesting their support as well. In addition, the Foundation has been exploring payroll deduction opportunities for our employees to set up recurring contributions in addition to ways that the general public can contribute. The plan is to go live with the payroll deduction option on January 1, 2026, which the foundation hopes will significantly increase employee contributions. Governing Body Representing Broad Public Interest The foundation's governing body represents the broad interests of the charitable class served by the foundation, including members from various geographical locations and different positions within Saia, Inc. Benefit to the Public Employee relief related to hardships, including but not limited to fires, floods, death of a family member, and natural disasters, is available to all Saia, Inc. employees and Saia, Inc. affiliates' employees, without regard to position or rank. As described above, the Saia Employee Relief Foundation has made efforts to increase public support, established a program to continuously solicit contributions from the public. Accordingly, pursuant to Treasury Reg 1.170A-9(f)(4)(i
