“Part III, line 1: The Womxn Project is a statewide organization dedicated to building a strong movement that harnesses the power of art, activism, and advocacy. We believe that together we can dismantle systems of oppression and uplift the voices of people in our communities throughout Rhode Island in order to shift power and shape the policies that impact our lives and the lives of our neighbors. We commit to embodying the principles of reproductive justice, cultivating innovation and advancing real and lasting change. Part I, line 1: The Womxn Project is a statewide organization dedicated to building a strong movement that harnesses the power of art, activism, and advocacy. We believe that together we can dismantle systems of oppression and uplift the voices of people in our communities throughout Rhode Island in order to shift power and shape the policies that impact our lives and the lives of our neighbors. We commit to embodying the principles of reproductive justice, cultivating innovation and advancing real and lasting change. Part III, line 4a: Reproductive rights through direct action and artistic intervations: The Womxn Project (TWP) operates within an intersectional and reproductive justice framework and seeks to effect change through building community. TWPs creative programing (combining artistic, educational and lobbying approaches to activism) aims to dismantle systems of oppression and uplift the voices of people in local communities, with a particular focus on the voices of Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color (BIPOC) womxn, in order to shift power and shape the policies that will improve all communities. In the lead up to and with the successful passage of the Reproductive Privacy Act, members of TWP, and observers who supported and were inspired by their work, expressed interest in pursuing broader cultural and political change through the kind of creative actions and artistic output that TWP used to build support for the legislation. With the organizations original focus solely on reproductive freedom, the board of directors expanded pursuits to also include voting access legislation and racial equity issues through policy shifts by coordinating with more coalitions and using TWPs signature style of activist actions that incorporate the arts to educate. Through different activist actions like projections in Washington DC, Portalnd, Maine and throughout Rhode Island to educational programing like panel discussions with a range of people who have run for office to traveling to Washington DC to rally in fron of the Supreme Court, TWP has found ways to adapt and learn how individual voices can best impact change. The organization continues to create opportunties for people to learn from subject matter experts (invividuals and organizations), all over the country.”
