Playful People Productions brings welcoming, joyful theater to life through a vibrant mix of Mainstage productions, family programming, and training opportunities for all ages. Each season, we produce 46 family-friendly, Broadway-style musicalsincluding new worksfeaturing casts that range from our youngest performers (ages 410) to teens and all-age youth ensembles. Our unique Family Casts create meaningful shared experiences by bringing multiple generations of youth and adults onstage together. Beyond productions, we offer multi-age choir, dance, and voice classes, plus dynamic summer camps for kids (and adults!) in acting, voice, dance, and technical theater. For tweens, teens and young adults, our Internship program provides advanced leadership development and hands-on production experience, cultivating the next generation of artists both onstage and behind the scenes.

“The organization was founded by Barbara Galiotto and Katie D'Arcey, mother and daughter. Barbara Galiotto serves on the Board and Katie is the Artistic Director and a paid employee.”

“When hiring the Executive Director and the Operations Director, the Board of Directors created a subcommittee comprised of people independent of the management of PPP that compiled data on executive compensation and reviewed this data. The subcommittee then made a recommendation to the board on the level of compensation for the Executive Director and the Operations Director. The board reviewed the recommendation, deliberated, and then made the compensation decision. This deliberation was documented contemporaneously in the board minutes. No other officers or key employees were hired during the fiscal year. The same process described would be used to hire other key positions.”

“In the Fiscal Year ending August 31, 2024, the accounting method for Playful People Productions was changed from cash to accrual. This change was discussed and approved by top management and the board of directors prior to the start of the fiscal year. Our budget is built around our season and fiscal year activities, but we consistently had expenses and income that did not match the calendar dates of our fiscal year. Thus, cash accounting was giving inaccurate metrics year over year. The accrual method better aligns to the way our income and expenses need to be reported and tracked. However, due to this change, the financial statement for FY 23/24 shows a net loss that is skewed. We have a net revenue of $42,500 that was accounted for in our FY 22/23 tax return (using cash basis) for programs that would have been attributed to FY 23/24 financials (using accrual basis), plus $78,338 in deferred revenues and $34,807 in prepaid expenses that will be reported in next years financial statements & tax return.”

We paid fair wages to 51 employees, including 5 full time and 2 part-time year round Staff members, and an additional 7 contractors. We served 472 participants via five productions and 714 camps, and 9 classes, a 37% increase since 2023. We added a multi-age choir and a summer camp production for adults and teens as new offerings that exceeded enrollment expectations. We proudly welcomed 128 new participants to our programs, and openly supported authenticity within our community of adults, teens, and children, as well as staff members. |

This change was discussed and approved by top management and the board of directors prior to the start of the fiscal year. Our budget is built around our season and fiscal year activities, but we consistently had expenses and income that did not match the calendar dates of our fiscal year. Thus, cash accounting was giving inaccurate metrics year over year. The accrual method better aligns to the way our income and expenses need to be reported and tracked.
