“In determining the compensation for our general director the following process took place. Because of our working alongside a Chilean missionary agency in many of our projects the director did not want to rise above the compensation levels of our Chilean co-workers. After considering their levels he proposed a support level to the board of our organization. They approved the amount and tasked the director with raising that amount through donations from churches and individuals. His compensation will never rise above the percentage of support that comes in from those donations. Note: this amount has not changed in 8 years. Next in determining compensation for our financial manager the following process took place. We wanted to provide a salary based on the average number of hours worked per month. We wanted compensation above minimum wage but realized because of our condition as a non-profit 100% dependent on donations we could not be commensurate with a typical Bookkeeper in our area. After consideration of these factors the board approved the present salary. We re-examine this compensation annually. Finally in the process of determining a missionarys salary we look at the cost of living in the country where the missionary will serve. We consult missionaries and national religious leaders already living in that area as well as our own governments studies on that country. We then propose a salary to be approved by the board. As a faith-based organization dependent 100% on donations we require the missionary to raise the approved amount in donation pledges by churches and individuals. Our missionaries are not allowed to raise or earn money outside of the United States. We examine this compensation regularly due to variable cost of living indexes of different countries as well as variations in exchange rates with the dollar.”
