“In january, utah outdoor partners hosted a press conference at the capitol during outdoor recreation day on the hill, with participation from the speaker of the house, senate president, officials from the governors office, nine ceos from utahs tech sector, and representatives from silicon slopes. Speakers focussed on the importance of investing in recreation infrastructure for both conservation and utahs economy. The event was widely attended and covered by multiple news outlets including deseret news, ksl, and utah policy. Uop is currently partnering with silicon slopes and several academic institutions on a study to show how much of utah's economy depends on outdoor recreation and why outdoor recreation and related conservation are essential for utah's economic growth. In april, uop hosted its first webinar featuring rep. Steve eliason, jason curry from the division of outdoor recreation, john harrison from lucid, and jennifer leaver from the kem c. Gardner policy institute. Nearly 50 people attended the live event, which reviewed legislative outcomes and addressed topics such as the states investment of 1% of sales tax revenue into recreation, campground expansion, and management of high-demand areas. Doug owens also appeared on ksls inside sources. Uop also joined the mi duole podcast in may, connecting with utahs cycling community on the value of trail infrastructure. In addition to public events, uop has been building partnerships to advance key projects. A couple of years ago, utah outdoor partners funded a study by professor jordan smith at utah states institute of outdoor recreation regarding the potential economic benefits of the bears ears cultural center. This year, we funded an update to that project. The organization is also collaborating with tribal partners on planning a bears ears cultural and visitors center, with a learning tour for tribal leaders to other cultural centers scheduled for october. The organization is also supporting garfield countys efforts to create a dinosaur-focused visitor center at grand staircaseescalante.”
