The Boon Project exists to combat the increased rates of isolation and depression in young adult cancer fighters and survivors, as well as to equip them with resources in their fight to help increase survival rates. The mission of the organization is to support young adult cancer fighters and their unique needs, through providing beneficial programs and creating a cooperative cancer fighting culture that works to heal the whole patient.

| Courage Club: Courage Club is made up of persons who have faced a cancer diagnosis as a young adult (roughly 18-40 years of age). We have a private online group, but also plan free in-person events at least monthly as an opportunity for those we serve to connect and support one another. Courage Club has a subgroup for those battling stage 4 cancer, which we call our "Metathrivers" group which gathers at least quarterly. This year, we've seen our online group grow to nearly 130 members with nearly half of them having attended one or more Courage Club events in-person. Over the last year, we've been required to monitor and adjust our programming to protect those we serve, and our community, during the Covid19 Pandemic. For the majority of the fiscal-year, Courage Club gatherings were held virtually. We hosted weekly trivia nights on Zoom, weekly Zoom Bible Study meetings, monthly online special events like Cooking Classes and Art Nights where all supplies were shipped to participants free of charge ahead of time. Our metathriver gatherings also moved to online. For special occasions such as holidays, we held outdoor "Drive thru style" parties for those we serve and their families. It was an opportunity for "Boonies" to take family photos and make memories safely. As more people became vaccinated, we started to gather in-person again with our Courage Club gathering in-person for an outdoor happy hour and dinner in June 2021. With increased risks of isolation and depression during this time, we've adapted and worked hard to reach our demographic virtually and safely. | $0 | $8,741 |
| Patient Support: Our patient support program provides financial, emotional, and mental health support for young adults fighting cancer. We offer financial assistance grants, access to free counseling services with a licensed therapist, support from a young adult cancer guide with a background in oncology nursing, as well as care packages called "Boon Bags" with cancer fighting resources. The Covid19 Pandemic has had a profound impact on this program, but we've been proud of how we've been able to adjust. Most hospitals and clinics no longer allow any outside literature or our Boon Bags in their facilities, so we've moved to "porch drop" delivery of these precious resources. We've also increased the number of financial assistance grants we award in order to meet the increased financial need of so many, and are proud to say that we've fulfilled 100% of grant requests. In a time when travel for treatment and access to second opinions is more complicated, our cancer guide has worked with patients to help them advocate for themselves and seek the best care plans for their situations. Patient care also sometimes takes the form of supporting a patient through a terminal diagnosis. That has been the case this year when our organization partnered with local businesses to provide support to patients and their families in the darkest of days. Our Patient Support Program is proof that we can come alongside each other to support and encourage, even if we cannot be physically together. | $4,000 | $8,287 |
| Fitness Force: Fitness Force is designed to help cancer survivors achieve their wellness goals after a cancer diagnosis. Volunteers act as supporters to encourage and provide accountability to our survivors. We help expose our survivors to diverse methods of workouts including running, walking, swimming, barre, yoga, weight training, and more so they can find a program that works for them and their post-cancer body. We partner with local gyms to provide complimentary workouts, and also have a scholarship program to help cover the costs associated with gyms memberships, nutrition, or workout equipment. We also use a points system to motivate participants to stay active and earn "swag." This year, we've had to make adjustments to this program due to the increased risk of virus spread during in-person group workouts. All Fitness Force events for the fiscal-year were held virtually. Ballet based workouts, body weight workouts, yoga, and more were held over Zoom. We continued to reward active participants via our points system and encouraged survivors to apply for Fitness Force Scholarships to provide them with a variety of fitness opportunities. | $0 | $1,781 |
