Additional Explanations

Form 990, Header, Line A

The YPO Gold Euro Chapter is a separate corporation from the Young Presidents Organization Inc. (12-1770417) but is included in its 501c6 blanket exemption number 7096. In April 2017, the Chapter was incorporated in Pennsylvania after having been previously domiciled in Sweden. Most of the Chapter members are European and most of the Chapter events are held in Europe. The Chapter accounts are primarily denominated in Euros since program service fees and event fees are collected in the form of Euros. Euro funds are either deposited at the Wise Europe SA Bank in Brussels, Belgium or converted to USD and deposited at PNC Bank N. A. in Pittsburgh. At year end, all accounts are revalued in USD as per IRS regulation which results in currency gain or losses which are reflected in the Profit and Loss Statement.

Form 990, Part V, Line 4A

Since most of the Chapter events are held in Europe, a Euro account is maintained with Wise, an internet wire transfer platform with its associated commercial bank located in Brussels, Belgium.

Form 990, Part V, Line 6B

There are no solicitations of contributions. All revenue is either Program Service Fees or Event Fees.

Form 990, Part IX, Line 11A

A part time Chapter Administrator living in Berlin, Germany provides services to the Chapter on a contract basis.

Form 990, Part IX, Line 24A - 24D

Since the Chapter invoices event participants approximately one year in advance, the fees collected are not recorded as income but rather are recognized as deferred revenue. A corresponding deferred program expense is recorded. Depending upon the balance a the end of the year, this amount is adjusted to actual at the end of the fiscal year and offset by any prepaid future program expenses. Members are permitted to cancel attendance and request fee refunds in varying amounts depending upon the closeness to the date of the event. This can create negative program fee amounts per event, within a fiscal year.

Form 990, Part IX, Line 24E

Net Deferred Program Expense. Event fees collected for future events.

Form 990, Part X, Line 19

Deferred revenue is generated when Event Fees and Program services are collected in years prior to the date of the event or activity. It is customary for the Chapter to invoice attending members 12 to 15 months prior to the event.

Form 990, Part XI, Line 9

There were no unexpected significant changes in net assets or fund balances in 2024. Since the IRS USD to EUR rate was unchanged during 2024 at .924, the only fund balance variances occurred when funds were moved to or from Europe and the US to take advantage of interest rates or to maintain balances within FDIC insured ranges. The exchange rates were those applied to the individual transactions by Wise, the wire transfer platform.

IRS990/Desc0The Chapter's May program was held in San Francisco and Las Vegas and suffered from a disappointing turnout. The sheer distance from most European members' homes played a large role. However, the event was extremely highly rated by attendees, In San Francisco, the biannual Investment Forum was held and was again quite vigorous. Whether or not the seeming greater uncertainly in the world is real or over-dramatized by the media, most members were deeply thoughtful about financial trends. The first day, being Sunday, set the stage with visits to some famous and infamous San Francisco sites. Monday was an extraordinary education day with the morning spent at UCSF, one of the top 3 US medical research facilities. There, we heard from 4 speakers focused on healthy aging and longevity research. First was Anna Molofsky, a professor of Neurobiology and Psychiatry, who acquainted us with her research into the complex interactions among multiple cell types in the brain and, in particular, how innate immune signals shape healthy brain development. Her research goal is to achieve a cellular and molecular understanding of brain-immune communication that can inform new immune based therapies for psychiatric, neurodevelopmental, and neurodegenerative illnesses. Next was Ari Molofsky, the assistant director of the Clinical Labs Immunology Section. Ari spoke about research into the intersection of immunology and tissue homeostasis / pathology. He wonders if sleep holds the key to preventing disease and aging, improving mood, and strengthening the immune system. Next was Aric Prather of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences who spoke about how poor sleep impacts physical health and emotional well-being. He measures sleep habits to determine which study participants are vulnerable to sleep-related health problems and which are resilient, with the goal of developing new treatments. Last was Louis Ptacek , a professor of Neurodegenerative Diseases who detailed his work in investigating inherited Mendelian disorders and circadiam rhythm genes. He i currently trying to understand a rare Mendelian variant of circadian behavior called familial advanced sleep-phase syndrome. The afternoon was spent at Alliance Bernstein hearing from first Howard Pyle speaking about AI and its transformative impact on industries. Howard focused on how we can possibly harness these powerful tools while staying true to our values. Next was Susan Wilner Golden, who teaches at Stanford Business School, discussing the financial power of the 50+ generation. Her focus was on how should we adapt our expectations and how should companies harness the opportunities of longevity for the benefit of employees and society. The Chapter then moved on to Las Vegas. The resources in Las Vegas included candid interactive presentations by both the CEO and the COO of the Wynn, Hearing how the business was fascinating. Gaming used to dominate the revenue but now has declined to 1/3 of the revenue with entertainment and lodging and food service increasing dramatically. They afforded us a behind-the-scenes look at how the Wynn operates with in-house bakeries, confectioners, floral services as well as the expected food, beverage, and of course gaming operations. Other resources included Patricia Mulroy, a leader in the international water community and Senior Fellow for Climate Adaption and Environmental Policy for Las Vegas. She was the general manager of the Las Vegas Valley Water District and the Southern Nevada Water Authority. She discussed her role in national water organizations, advocacy for sustainable policies, and climate adaptation. Next was Jack Sheehan discussing the tourism industry. He is a professional writer having published 32 books including 3 NY Times bestsellers, and has had two screenplays sold to Hollywood. Last but not least was Steve Cyr who job is to attract and host for "high rollers". His presentation about the psychology of those who gamble huge amount

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0The September event was back in Europe, at Bristol and Bath, UK. The Global Investment Forum was quite animated again with a new format of asking several profound questions and breaking up the group into 6 smaller groups to come up with answers (opinions). It worked extremely well as the presentations by each group were quite thought provoking. The first evening dinner set the tone for Bristol as it was held on Isambard Brunel's SS Great Britain, the world's first great ocean liner, built of steel, driven by screw propeller and launched in 1843. The first day started off with a lecture by Dr. James Boyd, a research fellow at the University of Bristol. The subject was Brunel and his genius in building the world's first suspension bridge in 1831, still standing and in use, next to the event hotel. Also emphasized was Brunel's technical revolution at sea which "transformed the world". Next was the Rt Hon Sir Jacob Rees Mogg, a British politician. He is one of the leading Brexiteers and worked closely advising Boris Johnson. He led the House of Commons from 2019-2022 while serving as an MP from 2010 to 2024. Sir Jacob discussed his politics as "popular policies, not populist policies". He continues to have his own political news program on GB News, a UK television channel. Next was Professor Joe McGeehan, who is called "The Father of the Mobile Phone" y Forbes Magazine. Joe has been conducting research into mobile communication technologies since 1973. He pioneered many major initiatives including deterministic ray-tracing for propogation prediction and network coverage, linear modulation techniques, linearised RF power amplifiers, SMART antennas, wideband CDMA for 3G, WLAN technologies, and 60GHz propogation and communication systems (used by first responders). It was a bit overwhelming for most Chapter members. On day two, we heard from John Nation, a charismatic graffiti expert and Godfather of the Bristol urban art scene. His focus is on Banksy, an enigmatic graffiti artist derived from Bristol's long history of culture and diversity of styles. Next was Sir David Ord of the London Business School. David acquired the entire Port of Bristol from the city. It had become an unworkable mess and the city was being displaced from its habitual position of the dominant port on England's East coast. For over 30 years, over 600m Pounds have been invested in the port. Our visit to the port operations was fascinating. The port is a leader in productivity and innovation. When the Chapter moved on to Bath, Andrew Brownsword was our host. He had built and sold a greeting card business and now operates his own 18 hotel group including several Relais & Chateaux and with Michelin starred cuisine. Additionally, he has set up an art collection which is in museums as well as in his hotels. He was quite interesting and dynamic. With the event having returned to Europe, the attendance was good so that a revenue surplus occurred, almost equaling the San Francisco Las Vegas deficit. The negative revenue is due to cancellations and refund of event fees. Adding together all financial activity from 2023 and 2024, the combined total event revenue of $176,524 and expense of $142,373 yielded a surplus of $34,151.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Attendance deposits were collected in 2024 for the two 2025 events. These totaled $303,951 for the May 2025 Norway event and $157,774 for the September 2025 Belgium event. No expenses have been incurred to date. As the accrual accounting method is utilized, the net amount of deposits in excess of expenses is offset by a deferred program expense. Events are budgeted at a breakeven until all revenue and expense is collected or incurred. In addition, a small expense ($336) was incurred for a prior year's event (Italy) which is recorded here.
