“Project: shrek: the musical (summer theatrical production)number engaged/impacted by project: 2000description of project: cast strives to bring students together from across the tri-state with the expectation of challenging each other in creative thought, collaboration of design, and critical thinking. This past year's objective was a professional caliber production of shrek the musical, created and run entirely by high school students under the guidance of professionals. Shrek was performed at highlands hs in ft. Thomas, ky. We aimed to provide opportunity on an equal playing field for students of all social classes and geographical areas to create theatre together and encourage the formation of friendships that span into the school year and beyond. Cast hopes to bridge the arts education inequalities between high schools and create an avenue for exploration. There are very few tri-state programs dedicated solely to the development of high school theatre skills. It is our belief that students learn valuable lessons about work skills, collaboration, communication, and commitment from participating in one of our theatrical productions. These skills can be used not only for use in future productions at their own schools, but in other professions in the future. We believe that we are creating the next generation of arts patrons, arts supporters, arts activists, and arts participants. We audition and interview any interested students from northern kentucky, ohio, or indiana schools.”
