Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 4D

Program Service Expenses 25,009, Grants and allocations 0, Revenue 0 While Mwandamo Women were establishing themselves as an organisation, we worked with co-founders Hannah and Caroline to do three womens health projects in Tanzania. The first project was to to help to provide the Oltukai Dispensary with life-saving equipment like weighing scales for children and mothers, stethoscopes, delivery kits and a steriliser, all of which are fundamental for the clinic team to provide healthcare to women and children in this rural government dispensary near Lake Manyara. The second project was to buy and distribute 600 reusable Sanitary Towel kits to 350 women and 250 girls in the Oltukai and Esilalei villages bordering Manyara Ranch Conservancy. The third project was to make renovations to create a dedicated Maternity Unit at the Esilalei Community Health Dispensary. Then we helped them cover some of the legal costs to succesfully register as an I-NGO in Tanzania.

We then created a new boys washroom attached to the second boarding house. In addition we also did upgrades to the lights system we put in throughout the school. Then the builder we used was also able to make refurbishments to the nearby clinic including new windows, doors, seats for patients and nurses.

Over the lifetime of this project, many of our previous students have become forces for positive change for their rural communities and the wilderness areas they come from. In 2024 a total of 54 students were sponsored in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda through this program. We look forward to continuing to sponsor these and more students who come to us for help to stay in school when they would not otherwise be able to.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0The Sand River Region The Royal African Foundation funds strategic programs to protect the Sand Rivers migration routes that link the Mara, Serengetti, and Rift Valley ecosystems. Among the most biodiverse areas on Earth, it faces growing threats from land subdivision and unplanned development, which disrupt wildlife movement and increase human-wildlife conflcit. To address this, we support community education, enterprise, health, and human-wildlife conflict mitigation projects. We also support biodiversity research and monitoring, and advocacy efforts to preserve this essential landscape for people and wildlife alike.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0KPSGA Curriculum Reform Project The Royal African Foundation supported the Kenya Professional Safari Guide Association KPSGA in modernising its training and certification system for local guides. Founded in 1996, the KPSGA created a merit-based system for local Kenyan safari guides to advance in their careers through its bronze, silver, and gold exams, which thousands of guides have taken. With our support, the examination council, led by KPSGA Gold Guide and environmental history professor Willis Okech Oyugi, has completed a comprehensive update of all three syllabi, with greater emphasis on conservation, ethics, hospitality, and environmental stewardship. New accreditations are being pursued, and course readers are in development to make these materials more accessible. This work aims to empower Kenyan guides to progress in their careers and become better custodians of Kenyas incredible natural heritage.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Program Service Expenses 25,009, Grants and allocations 0, Revenue 0 While Mwandamo Women were establishing themselves as an organisation, we worked with co-founders Hannah and Caroline to do three womens health projects in Tanzania.
