In 2018, bonner county economic development corporation accomplished the following: we executed our 4th annual "what's happening up north" economic summit featuring the topic "housing & labor". Our attendance included over 140 local and regional business and public officials. Fiber network after identifying access to high-speed internet as the number one barrier to business growth and retention in bonner county, sandpoint is home to two major fiber providers, ting and fatbeam. Ting is operational in phase i neighborhoods in sandpoint and continues expansion into south sandpoint as part of their second phase. Fatbeam is under-development. Establishment of opportunity zone for downtown sandpoint lead entirely by the bcedc, our original hopes were to confirm two of our three qualifying zip codes as opportunity zones, targeting downtown priest river, hope, and downtown sandpoint. In the end, it was only sandpoint downtown that was accepted. Business retention/expansion 63-602nn after the establishment of property tax exemptions and lowering the capital limit to 500,000 threshold, the bcedc is working directly with the county and their attorney to navigate applications and their progress. Companies now under 63-602nn include litehouse, quest, mountain metals, tamarack, cryptorock and pape machinery. Current applicants under review will be given an update by the county attorney in early 2019. Newly interested applicants include idagon among others. Diedrich roasters diedrich roasters began a two-phase expansion into a brand new, state of the art facility in ponderay, id. Diedrich completed phase i in early 2018 and has begun phase ii as of q3 2018. They plan to move all operations under the new building by june 2019. Litehouse foods this fall, the sandpoint-based company made famous for its salad dressings and dips cut the ribbon on a 175,000 square foot expansion of its production facility in utah. The growth follows similar production expansions at litehouse's sandpoint and michigan locations, too. In sandpoint, a 6.2 million expansion in february of 2018 underscores litehouse's commitment to and investment in the sandpoint community and bonner county. The 26,000-square-foot expansion includes a new cooler, shipping and receiving center, loading docks, updated employee break rooms and facilities, and a 4,000-square-foot wastewater treatment facility. The new cooler adds roughly 1,350 new refrigerated pallet locations as well as approximately 150 freezer pallet locations. Tamarack aerospace in 2018, tamarack relocated to a new hanger location at the sandpoint airport. Capital expenditures the sandpoint downtown revitalization project the project will provide wider sidewalks with street furniture, storm gardens to treat stormwater before discharging to sand creek and pend oreille river, places for public art and new landscaping. With funding from the sandpoint urban renewal agency and an idaho community development block grant awarded by the idaho department of commerce, the city implemented the first phase of the project transform the downtown into a new and welcoming environment for people to rediscover all of what downtown sandpoint has to offer. Phase 1 construction of the project was completed on cedar street between 2nd and 5th avenues. Phase 2's timeline has been adjusted to meet the needs of downtown business owners and will now include a delayed start of construction to after labor day 2019 with a goal of curb-to-curb completed by october 31, 2019; 5' sidewalk (asphalt or concrete) by november 26, 2019; and all work complete by june 1, 2020. Growth & development kitchen ponderay bonner county is now home to kitchen ponderay, a nonprofit commercial kitchen allowing food entrepreneurs to start up their businesses at a fraction of the cost, and helps them maximize profits when they need it the most.
