“The mahoney houses strives to stop, prevent, and heal the effects of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence in lemhi and custer counties. From july of 2020 through june of 2021, we faced pandemic-related obstacles, but were still able to serve many survivors and assist our community. We assisted 191 clients in this timeframe in different aspects of advocacy. We were available to respond with law enforcement to the hospital for community crisis situations and maintained our 24-hour crisis line. We adapted our parenting classes to an online platform, where our participants could attend from the comfort of their homes. We provided one six-class session with one participant. This was taught by two of our staff using effective strategies for behavior change and the strengthening families curriculum provided by idaho children's trust fund. The mahoney house has the opportunity to be in our local schools providing social emotional learning to grades 1-8 in a typical school year. Due to the pandemic, our schools did not allow outside visitors. Therefore, we provided social emotional learning by recording lessons and sharing them to our social media platforms, reaching a total of 445 views. In june 2021, two of our staff traveled to boise to attend a child forensic interviewing training provided by the idaho network of child advocacy centers. After returning, we performed five forensic interviews for law enforcement. This is a valuable service to our community. Support groups became a challenge due to social distancing and being able to provide them in a space large enough for all to feel safe and comfortable. We conducted three teen life support groups in the summer of 2020, where we had a total of eight youth attend. These youth were primary and secondary survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault. In april of 2021, the mahoney house hosted a trauma-informed care training at the steele memorial clinic conference room. Retired detective angela weekes from the nampa police department came to salmon and provided a full eight-hour training on how to provide trauma-informed care to survivors. In attendance were a wide variety of our community partners including salmon police department, lemhi county sheriff's department, steele memorial medical center physicians and sexual assault nursing staff, lemhi valley social services counseling staff, custer county sheriff's department, salmon school district 291 staff, lemhi county prosecutor, lemhi county probation, and mh staff.”
