Mission and Program Overview

Mission

We stand with the community and survivors of violence to provide, safety, education and empowerment.

North idaho violence prevention center (nivpc) provides a domestic violence hot line and a rape/sexual hotline for kootenai and benewah counties. Nivpc also maintains service for the kootenai county crisis lines. These lines are staffed 24-hrs a day by trained advocates,staff and volunteers. Nivpc also provides hospital advocacy for victims at the emergency room or admitted to the hospital for injuries 24-hrs a day to both domestic violence and rape/sexual assault victims mostly through advocates. The office is open 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday through friday housing the court advocacy, community outreach and education, volunteer coordination, counseling and children's center, rape/sexual assault teen dating violence programs, as well as administration and answers the hotlines during office hours. Shelter provides services 24-hrs a day.

Our counseling services are offered to men, women and children of any race, religion or economic status who calls Women's Center, Inc. for assistance. Part X : FIN48 Footnote

Women's Center, Inc. is exempt from federal income taxes under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and, therefore, has made no provision for federal income taxes in the accompanying financial statements. In addition, Women's Center, Inc. has been determined by the Internal Revenue Service not to be a "private foundation" within the meaning of Section 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. In accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, the organization is required to disclose certain information regarding potential liabilities regarding its tax positions it currently takes or has taken in prior years. Currently, there are no unrecognized tax benefits or liabilities that need to be recognized during the current year or due to a tax position taken in a prior year. If the organization were to have a potential liability for such taxes, it would also accrue interest and penalties as a liability in the financial statements. The organization expects no recognized tax benefits that will be incurred within the next year of the date of these financial statements. The Organization believes it is no longer subject to income tax examinations for years prior to 2011.

IRS990/Desc0NIVPC Shelter - provides emergency shelter and temporary residence to women and children who are in imminent danger of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. Families can stay in the shelter up to 30 days and are provided a safe place with privacy, access to transportation, clothing, food and hygiene necessities. We also provide case management services to assist shelter clients to make decisions about employment, housing, transportation and access to other service providers to meet other basic needs.When a victim seeks assistance from the legal system to provide protection and lawful recourse, she is confronted with a complex system to be navigated. Our Court Advocacy Program assists survivors of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault. This program informs victims of their rights, assists in the filing of temporary and extended Protection Orders, provides education related to the judicial system, and accompanies clients to court offering support as victims face their abusers. The Court Advocacy Program also provides referrals to Legal Aid for free legal assistance and will assist victims with Crime Victims Compensation forms when necessary.

NIVPC ALSO MAINTAINS SERVICE FOR THE KOOTENAI COUNTY CRISIS LINES. THESE LINES ARE STAFFED 24-HRS A DAY BY TRAINED ADVOCATES,STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS. NIVPC ALSO PROVIDES HOSPITAL ADVOCACY FOR VICTIMS AT THE EMERGENCY ROOM OR ADMITTED TO THE HOSPITAL FOR INJURIES 24-HRS A DAY TO BOTH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND RAPE/SEXUAL ASSAULT VICTIMS MOSTLY THROUGH ADVOCATES. THE OFFICE IS OPEN 8 A.M.- 5 P.M. MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY HOUSING THE COURT ADVOCACY, COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND EDUCATION, VOLUNTEER COORDINATION, COUNSELING AND CHILDREN'S CENTER, RAPE/SEXUAL ASSAULT TEEN DATING VIOLENCE PROGRAMS, AS WELL AS ADMINISTRATION AND ANSWERS THE HOTLINES DURING OFFICE HOURS. SHELTER PROVIDES SERVICES 24-HRS A DAY.
