DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Also in 2021, NDA acted as a consultant for Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund ("TFKAF"). TFKAF has a mission consistent with NDA's mission of improving the socio- economic conditions of Delawarean families. Under this contract, NDA "buil[t] a grassroots network in support of legislation to ban the sale of all flavored tobacco products in Delaware." Network Delaware Action's employees spent 10 hours a week performing Organization's contract obligations from January to May. At the end of the TFKAF campaign, NDA had activated 70 or more persons to contact a legislator, attend a workshop, or join a team; hosted two trainings on lobbying and influencing decisionmakers; and engaged 20 Delaware organizations in support of the campaign, including Black Mothers in Power, the Delaware chapter of the NAACP, the Delaware State Education Association, and the Delaware Bethel AME Church. Although NDA included a contract with Action for Delaware's Children in response to one of the additional information requests from the IRS, NDA did not execute this contract and did not perform any consulting services for Action for Delaware's Children.$50,000$24,100
In 2021, the first year NDA was active, NDA spent considerable time and resources base- building, both in connection with its contract work and in connection with Network Delaware issue campaigns. Base-building requires engaging individuals on an issue and then, over a series of contacts, encouraging that individual to act, either in their own capacity or as a volunteer of Network Delaware and NDA. NDA's base building primarily focuses on canvassing and house meetings. Canvassing is door-to-door outreach that focuses on building meaningful connections with individuals. House meetings are gatherings held at a community member's residence to mobilize that person's family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, etc. NDA provided training to Network Delaware volunteers and others on how to effectively build a base for its grassroots lobbying campaigns Network Delaware Action had 12 volunteers engaged in grassroots activities as part of Network Delaware's federal issue campaign starting in November 2021. NDA drafted an engagement plan detailing the goals and metrics of success for the campaign. The team serves as a hub for national issues where Delaware's federal delegation has an important role to play. NDA volunteers each spent on average 2-3 hours each week engaging people online around policies related to the Build Back Better agenda. This time was spent planning and preparing for training sessions, organizing future base building events, and engaging with members on social media. NDA's employees spent 5 hours a week November to December organizing volunteers around the federal issues campaign and managing the day-to- day operations of NDA. As a result of this team's efforts, NDA activated 50 people by getting them to contact a legislator, attend a workshop, or join a team.$25,000$0
