Use goat herds to remove vegetation in public landscapes: In 2023, Allegheny GoatScape utilized five herds of goats to complete 42 projects on 68 acres of property. 31 of the projects were on public, public right of way, or educational institution property, comprising 80% of the total area addressed. All of our projects take place where our services are wanted and requested; many are performed in partnership with other local non-profits and municipalities to improve landscape management in a comprehensive manner. AGS also provides education opportunities for the public to interact with our animals and learn why invasive plan management is important.

“AGS contracts different organizations, municipalities, companies and land owners to address invasive plant species issues throughout Allegheny County, PA. We use the same model across our projects as we do with the City of Pittsburgh and our Pittsburgh Tree Canopy Alliance projects. In 2024, AGS addressed 26 acres across 15 different projects. Some of the highlights included the GAP Trail along the Monongahela River in Homestead, fee for service provided by Waterfront Association; private wooded area, fee for service provided by Heinz Estate; Hays Woods Park, fee for service provided by The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy; wooded area adjacent to new development in Fairywood, Pittsburgh, fee for service provided by RIDC; overgrown areas on Penn State University - Greater Allegheny Campus, fee for service provided by the Penn State University; and others. In addition to land management, our staff provided outreach events at some of the working locations to share with the public the importance of native species and how goats provide a valuable service in supporting the local landscape care. Additional support for these projects were subsidized through non-discretionary donations. All revenue supports winter care of the animals when they are not actively working on landscaping service projects.”
“AGS assets depreciated or removed from asset consideration since they were are older than 5 years. These assets consist of tools and field equipment for landscaping as well as for animal care between 2023 and 2024. AGS owns a Dodge Ram truck that it purchased in 2018 as a primary vehicle and a stock trailer purchased in 2021. In addition to tools and other equipment, AGS owns 59 animals, a net of 3 more than it owned at the end of 2023.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | Allegheny GoatScape (AGS) received a grant from PNC Charitable Trusts to establish a geriatric herd, called the Golden Goats, for specific animals to receive additional care and support as aging or physically vulnerable goats. Extra care is provided to this herd since they are not as mobile as other animals. While other AGS herds work on projects in all types of terrain, the Golden Goats are only placed in locations with little elevation change, relative ease for staff and volunteers to tend to them. The herd did work on a few appropriate projects in 2024, and their work provided additional fee for service revenue to the grant that began in April 2024 and was to be spent by the end of March 2025. Additional revenue comes from non-discretionary donations. |
