Governance Explanations

Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

Jeris House Inc. reviews the Form 990 prior to filing. Whenever possible the return is reviewed collectively with the officers and board members either by phone conference or in person to discuss its contents and address any questions. If a group meeting cannot be arranged a copy of the completed Form 990 is provided to each officer and board member for individual review before submission. Any comments or corrections received are incorporated as appropriate and the final version is approved

Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Jeris House Inc. monitors potential conflicts of interest through annual written disclosures completed by all officers directors and key personnel. At each board meeting members are reminded of their obligation to disclose any personal financial or family interests that could influence their decisions. If a potential or actual conflict is identified the affected individual must fully disclose the nature of the conflict and abstain from discussion or voting on the related matter. The remaining disinterested board members review the facts and determine whether the transaction is fair and in the best interest of the organization. Any conflicts and the boards actions are documented in the meeting minutes. If a conflict is discovered after a transaction has occurred the board reviews the matter promptly and takes appropriate corrective action to ensure compliance with the organizations written conflict-of-interest policy and applicable laws.

| Name of the Person:, The process used to establish compensation of the person who served in:|, The year in which this process was last undertaken:| Jeri Cooper, The compensation for Jeri Cooper President and Program Director of Jeris House Inc. was established through an informal review of compensation levels for comparable positions among organizations and specialists serving the DeafBlind community in the local and regional area. The board considered both market data and the organizations limited financial resources in setting a modest annual salary of $12,000. The board determined that this amount was reasonable and below local comparables reflecting Ms. Coopers dedication to the mission and the organizations commitment to directing the majority of its funds toward program services. Jeris House Inc. makes its governing documents conflict of interest policy and financial statements available to the public upon request. Although the organization does not have a formal public posting process or website publication it ensures that such documents are accessible to the general public in accordance with IRS disclosure requirements.

| Explanation:| Jeris House provides housing and instruction to DeafBlind individuals to promote independent living and communication skills. Program participants receive individualized training in cooking cleaning shopping and communication through Braille and American Sign Language. Residents typically live on-site for several months while completing their training and all services directly further the organizations exempt purpose.

| Explanation:| During the year the organization received a property donation from Jeri Cooper President and founder of Jeris House. The property was contributed to support the organizations exempt purpose. Ms. Cooper did not receive any benefit or claim a personal tax deduction for the contribution. The donation is reported on Schedule B as a non-cash contribution over $5,000. No Forms 8283 were received during the tax year. Although the organization received a property donation from its president the donor did not claim a tax deduction; therefore no Form 8283 was issued or acknowledged.
