Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The form 990 is reviewed by management. A complete copy of the form 990 and supporting schedule is provided to the board for review prior to the filing.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Potential conflicts of interest are reviewed and determined at the director/officer level. The organization's conflict of interest policy assures that persons who have a conflict of interest will not have influence over the corporation for setting their own compensation or influence over the corporation regarding business deals with themselves. During the annual board meetings, any duality of interest or possible conflict of interest on the part of any director/officer in any matter involving the organization is disclosed to the other directors/officers. If a conflict arises, the person with the conflict is not allowed to vote on the transaction.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15B

The organization's ceo serves on a volunteer basis. Compensation for the organization's cfo/coo is determined and reviewed by the compensation committee who uses compensation surveys or studies to gain comparability data. The committee makes a recommendation to the full board who votes for approval. This process was last done and documented in jan 2024. The organization does not have any other officers or key employees.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization makes its forms 990, irs determination letter and conflict of interest available to the public on its website. The organization's governing documents and financial statements are available to the public on request.

IRS990/Desc0THE SAN DIEGO SENIORS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (SDSCF) IS COMMITTED TO ENHANCING THE LIVES OF OLDER ADULTS. THIS YEAR, WE EXPANDED OUR IMPACTFUL INITIATIVES AND FORGED NEW PARTNERSHIPS TO ENSURE THAT EVERY SENIOR IN SAN DIEGO FEELS SUPPORTED, VALUED, AND CONNECTED.EMPOWERING SENIOR CENTERS:THE EMPOWER SAN DIEGO SENIOR CENTER CAMPAIGN REMAINS CENTRAL TO OUR MISSION. IN 2024, WE SUPPORTED MORE UNDERFUNDED SENIOR CENTERS THROUGH STRATEGIC GRANTS THAT EXPAND PROGRAMMING AND STRENGTHEN OPERATIONS. THESE CENTERS SERVE AS VITAL COMMUNITY HUBS WHERE OLDER ADULTS CONNECT AND THRIVE. WE'RE NOW INTEGRATING OUR SENIOR CENTER MASTER PLAN WITH SAN DIEGO COUNTY'S STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK, WORKING TOWARD OUR VISION OF TRANSFORMING EVERY SENIOR CENTER INTO AN EXEMPLARY FACILITY THAT DELIVERS COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES TAILORED TO OUR AGING POPULATION'S DIVERSE NEEDS.NO SENIOR ALONE CAMPAIGN:OUR NO SENIOR ALONE CAMPAIGN HAS BEEN A HEARTWARMING SUCCESS. WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THERE ARE OVER 180,000 ELDER ORPHANS IN SAN DIEGO, SDSCF IS DEDICATED TO COMBATTING SENIOR ISOLATION THROUGH OUR VARIOUS PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES. IN EARLY 2025, WE SENT CLOSE TO 1,000 SENIORS TO THE SAN DIEGO SAFARI PARK FOR THE FIRST TIME. THIS INITIATIVE PROVIDED A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE FOR MANY OLDER ADULTS, COMBATING ISOLATION AND BRINGING JOY TO THEIR LIVES. WE ARE COMMITTED TO CONTINUING SUCH EFFORTS, ENSURING THAT EVERY SENIOR HAS OPPORTUNITIES TO CONNECT AND ENGAGE WITH THE COMMUNITY. LOOKING FORWARD, OUR NO SENIOR ALONE FOR THE HOLIDAYS CAMPAIGN WILL ENSURE THAT OVER 8,000 SENIORS AT 28 DIFFERENT SENIOR CENTERS ACROSS SAN DIEGO WILL NOT BE ALONE DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON.ELDER FRAUD PREVENTION AND FINANCIAL STABILITY:WITHIN SAN DIEGO, SENIORS LOST AT LEAST $108 MILLION TO ELDER FRAUD SCAMS IN 2024 AND THAT IS JUST FOR THOSE WHO REPORTED THESE EVENTS. TO COMBAT THIS, SDSCF HAS IMPLEMENTED AN EXTENSIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING OF ELDER FRAUD PREVENTION AND FINANCIAL SECURITY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE FBI CITIZENS ACADEMY, WELLS FARGO, AND OTHER COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS. WE HAVE COLLECTIVELY TRAINED 349 OLDER ADULTS FROM AUGUST 2024 TO JUNE 2025, WITHIN SAN DIEGO COUNTY TO IDENTIFY SCAMS AND IMPROVE FINANCIAL STABILITY.SENIOR CENTER MASTER PLAN, STATE OF SENIORS REPORT, AND THE SAN DIEGO SENIOR CENTER COALITION:SDSCF HAS CONDUCTED IN-DEPTH RESEARCH ON SAN DIEGO'S AGING SERVICES INFRASTRUCTURE, RESULTING IN TWO LANDMARK REPORTS: THE SENIOR CENTER MASTER PLAN AND THE STATE OF SENIORS REPORT. THESE REPORTS HIGHLIGHT THE URGENT NEED TO EXPAND AND STRENGTHEN THE AGING NETWORK, WHICH CURRENTLY LACKS THE CAPACITY TO MEET BOTH PRESENT DEMANDS AND THE RAPID GROWTH OF THE OLDER ADULT POPULATION IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS.SDSCF ESTABLISHED THE SAN DIEGO SENIOR CENTER COALITION, A COLLABORATIVE OF SENIOR CENTERS AND AGING SERVICE PROVIDERS, FOCUSED ON BUILDING CAPACITY, ADVANCING EQUITY, PROMOTING COLLABORATION, SHARING INFORMATION, AND DRIVING ADVOCACY TO ENSURE ALL OLDER ADULTS ARE SUPPORTED.NATIONAL RECOGNITION AND COLLABORATION:OUR INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO SENIOR CARE IS BEING RECOGNIZED ON A NATIONAL SCALE. WITH GENEROUS SUPPORT FROM WELLS FARGO, WE HAVE PARTNERED WITH THE FBI CITIZENS ACADEMY TO HOLD ELDER FRAUD PREVENTION SEMINARS TAUGHT BY FBI AGENTS. THIS PARTNERSHIP HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN EDUCATING OVER 1,000 SENIORS ABOUT THE DANGERS OF FRAUD. OUR PARTNER AGENCY, FBISDCAA, RECEIVED AN AWARD FOR OUR COLLABORATIVE WORK, HIGHLIGHTING THE POSITIVE IMPACT WE'VE MADE IN PROTECTING AND EMPOWERING SENIORS. OUR SENIOR CENTER COALITION HAS ALSO RECEIVED NATIONAL ATTENTION BY THE NACIONAL COUNCIL ON AGING, THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF SENIOR CENTERS, AND OTHER STATES SUCH AS OREGON ARE NOW REPLICATING OUR MODEL IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. INTERGENERATIONAL GRANTMAKING AND PROGRAMS:IN 2025, WE WERE ABLE TO IMPLEMENT SEVERAL INTERGENERATIONAL PROGRAMS IN COMPANIONSHIP WITH ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS LET'S PLAY A GAME AND GLAMOUR GALS. ADDITIONALLY, WE ARE WORKING CLOSELY WITH THE ITZKOWICH FOUNDATION TO BRING MORE

IRS990ScheduleA/FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt0THE MISSION OF THE SAN DIEGO SENIORS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (SDSCF) IS TO SERVE THE OLDER ADULT POPULATION OF THE SAN DIEGO REGION, ENSURING THAT THEY HAVE SOMEONE THAT THEY CAN TURN TO AND TRUST, AND THAT THEY CAN THRIVE IN A HEALTHY, DYNAMIC WAY OF LIFE WHERE THEY ARE NO LONGER VULNERABLE BUT VIBRANT.SDSCF'S PUBLIC SUPPORT PERCENTAGE THIS YEAR IS 30.76%, ONLY SLIGHTLY BELOW THE 33.33% PUBLIC SUPPORT THRESHOLD BUT ABOVE THE 10% FACTS AND CIRCUMSTANCES THRESHOLD. SDSCF ACTIVELY SERVES THE SENIOR POPULATION THROUGH SEVERAL KEY INITIATIVES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:-REDUCING SOCIAL ISOLATION TO ADDRESS THE VULNERABILITIES OF A GROWING POPULATION OF SENIOR ORPHANS THROUGH OUR NO SENIOR ALONE PROGRAM-HELPING TO ENSURE THAT SENIORS ARE FINANCIALLY STABLE AND ARE TRAINED IN FRAUD PREVENTION. TO ACHIEVE THESE GOALS, SDSCF PARTNERS WITH THE LOCAL FBI OFFICE AND CAREFULLY SELECTED FINANCIAL PROFESSIONALS. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR, SDSCF DIRECTLY TRAINED 349 OLDER ADULTS THROUGH A SERIES OF ELDER FRAUD PREVENTION WORKSHOPS HELD IN VARIOUS SAN DIEGO LOCATIONS. THESE EVENTS WERE HOSTED IN COLLABORATION WITH SENIOR CENTERS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO ADDRESS THE GROWING THREAT OF SCAMS TARGETING VULNERABLE SENIORS.-RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS OF ISSUES FACING OLDER ADULTS AND STIMULATING INFORMED ACTION TO HELP THEM. THIS YEAR, SDSCF PUBLISHED ITS FIRST EVER "STATE OF SAN DIEGO SENIORS" REPORT.-DEPLOYING RESOURCES TO STRENGTHEN EXISTING SENIOR SERVICE PROVIDERS AND LOCAL INFRASTRUCTURE-PROMOTING THE NEED FOR MODERN COMMUNITY-BASED SENIOR CENTERS THAT LOCATE AND SERVE VULNERABLE SENIORS WITHIN THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITIES. THIS YEAR SDSCF PUBLISHED A 380-PAGE MASTER PLAN FOR SENIOR CENTERS ROADMAP DESIGNED TO REVITALIZE AND EXPAND SENIOR CENTER INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE SAN DIEGO REGION. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT THE SENIOR CENTERS WE SUPPORT SERVED ROUGHLY 35,000 UNDUPLICATED OLDER ADULTS IN THE GREATER SAN DIEGO AREA. THESE CENTERS PROVIDED ESSENTIAL RESOURCES INCLUDING MEAL PROGRAMS, SOCIAL CONNECTION OPPORTUNITIES, CASE MANAGEMENT, TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE, AND WELLNESS ACTIVITIES. THIS ESTIMATE REFLECTS THE CUMULATIVE REACH OF BOTH SMALLER RURAL CENTERS AND HIGH-VOLUME URBAN HUBS AND REPRESENTS A CRITICAL SAFETY NET FOR SAN DIEGO'S AGING POPULATION.-CREATING STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS TO STRENGTHEN THE LOCAL SENIOR SERVICES NETWORK, STREAMLINE AND CONSOLIDATE EFFORTS AND RESOURCES, AND ADVANCE INNOVATIVE REGIONAL SOLUTIONS THAT HELP VULNERABLE SENIORS-IDENTIFYING AND ENGAGING INTERGENERATIONAL PROGRAMS THAT CONNECT OLDER ADULTS WITH YOUNGER GENERATIONSBONA FID SOLICITATION PROGRAM: TO SUPPORT THESE EXISTING INITIATIVES AND EMERGING OPPORTUNITIES, SDSCF ENGAGES IN ROBUST FUNDRAISING EFFORTS TO SOLICIT PUBLIC SUPPORT, DIVERSIFY OUR DONOR BASE, AND APPLY FOR TARGETED GRANT FUNDING.THIS YEAR SDSCF RECEIVED TOTAL CONTRIBUTIONS OF $727,567 FROM 80 UNIQUE SOURCES OF SUPPORT. ONLY 7 OF OUR SOURCES OF SUPPORT ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CONTRIBUTING TO THE "EXCESS OVER 2%" AMOUNT THAT CAUSED OUR PUBLIC SUPPORT PERCENTAGE TO DIP SLIGHTLY BELOW 33.33% FOR THE FIVE-YEAR ROLLING CALCULATION. ONE OF THOSE SOURCES PROVIDED $325,000 THIS YEAR FOR SDSCF TO DEPLOY RESOURCES SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO STRENGTHEN THE PROGRAMS AND INFRASTRUCTURE OF COMMUNITY BASED SENIOR CENTERS. ANOTHER FUNDING SOURCE INCLUDED IN THE FIVE-YEAR PUBLIC SUPPORT CALCULATION WAS A ONE-TIME GRANT OF $500,000 RECEIVED IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR FROM A PRIVATE FOUNDATION FOR MULTI-YEAR OPERATING SUPPORT. AT LEAST HALF OF OUR DONORS GIVE LESS THAN $500 PER YEAR, AND SOME DONORS MAKE MULTIPLE CONTRIBUTIONS, SO TWO OR THREE LARGE GRANTS CAN SKEW THE PUBLIC SUPPORT PERCENTAGE.OVER THE PAST FISCAL YEAR, SDSCF EXPANDED ITS PUBLIC SUPPORT BASE THROUGH A SERIES OF STRATEGIC CAMPAIGNS, DONOR OUTREACH EFFORTS, AND COMMUNITY INITIATIVES AIMED AT ENSURING NO SENIOR IS LEFT BEHIND. OUR EFFORTS REFLECT A BROAD BASE OF DONOR ENGAGEMENT CONSISTENT WITH IRS PUBLIC SUPPORT REQUIREMENTS, MARKED BY GROWTH IN BOTH GRA
