“Rheumatology for alls mission is to increase access to rheumatology care in resource limited areas by providing education to local physicians and health care professionals. Our aim is that rheumatology education will eventually become self-sustaining in these areas. And in this way, access to rheumatology care will be improved.”

“Volunteer rheumatologists from both africa and western countries continued the rheumatology virtual didactic series for the medical residents of rwanda. This was the fifth year of this program. Rwanda now has a rheumatologist so we will not repeat the program in 2026. Rfa is in the planning stages with the academic rheumatologist in accra, ghana to start a virtual visiting professor program for the rheumatology fellowship training program there. This would consist of a monthly virtual case presentation and or didactic discussion with the fellows in training. We are discussing having volunteers from rfa visit ghana for hands on teaching with medical residents and interested practicing physicians.”

“Rfa successfully sponsored two ethiopian physicians for a fellowship in rheumatology in durban, south africa. They completed the fellowship and returned to ethiopia in 2021. Additinally, rfa sponsored an ethiopian pediatrician for training in pediatric rheumatology in capetown, south africa from jan 2023 until december 2023. All three of these physicians are continuing to treat patients but even more important they are instructing the next generation of physicians in rheumatology. The interest in rheumatology is increasing in ethiopia. Rfa identified and is ready to sponsor an internist from mozambique for a two year fellowship in rheumatology in south africa. At this time, she has not been permitted to enter south africa because south africa has not released her visa. She is intent on establishing a training program in mozambique once she has completed her studies.”
