Digital Scriptorium (DS) is a growing consortium of North American institutions with collections of global premodern manuscripts. DS is dedicated to building an online national union catalog built on Linked Open Data technologies and practices for premodern manuscripts in US collections.

Program Services

The DS Catalog is an online data repository, a semantic portal, and knowledge base allowing users to explore and query heterogeneous data contained in manuscript records from multiple sources in a single interface powered by linked open data (LOD). The DS Catalog bridges the gap between researchers and resources through a network of member institutions with common interests and shared user communities. As an organization with national representation, DS serves the interests of a diverse community of scholars, teachers, students, hobbyists, booksellers, and collectors-anyone with an interest in premodern manuscripts. This accomplishment includes management and organization of DS Members, Non-Voting Associates and Supporting Members.$0$7,000
Conference travel and the DS Annual Meeting promote best practices for manuscript description, discovery, and access in the digital age and build and maintain an openly accessible, digital union catalog for global premodern manuscripts in North American collections based on linked open data technologies and practices. These meetings facilitate research that provides answers, provokes questions, invites collaboration and creates a community of scholars, librarians, curators, and other citizen-scholars for the purpose of sharing the scholarship and expertise of the collections curators, librarians, the academy, and cultural heritage communities.$0$1,214
The Catalog transforms member institutions' structured metadata into LOD and enriches it with semantic connections to external authorities and Wikidata, the world's largest, freely accessible knowledge graph. Digital Scriptorium then endeavored to shift its accounting period from January to December to July to June. Following the IRS guidelines, Digital Scriptorium filed Form 1128 with the IRS to shift the organization's accounting period from accordingly. With the tax filing for Jan - Dec of 2024 submitted and accepted, and Form 1128 filed with the IRS, Digital Scriptorium was forced to wait until the 990 Software for tax year 2025 updated to complete this short year return for the first six (6) months of 2025.
