“With the support of CAYOs established partners, the University of Minnesota School of Music and Minnesota Public Radio, and assistance from the Minnesota Orchestra and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Fall Academy offered students outstanding educational and performance exposure. They observed both orchestras in rehearsal, received coaching and private lessons, attended workshops in business and arts administration, performed and spoke at local elementary schools, appeared on American Public Medias Performance Today, and gave public performances alongside Minnesota Orchestra principal strings at Orchestra Hall. To foster deeper cultural understanding, the Cuban students were housed with local musicians. Minnesota roots were firmly established between students, faculty, and mentors. Our fall participants reached various audiences in their free public performances and outreach concerts. At Minneapolis' Orchestra Hall, they served 150 senior citizens at matinee concerts as well as 300 audience members of all ages in evening performances. On the radio, such as on American Public Media's "Performance Today," our musicians were heard on 1,000 radio stations nationwide. In outreach concerts, Fall Academy musicians performed for several hundred elementary students at public schools.CAYO is committed to continuing to deepen relationships between the people of our two countries. Our arts delegations are ways in which patrons and supporters can travel in small group settings to visit the island, during which time we will: Serve the artist communities of the US and Cuba Provide high-impact travel opportunities for supporters of the arts and international learning Offer people-to-people experiences with working and student artists in dance, music, and the visual arts Allow for intergenerational and cross-cultural travel in small groups Reveal authentic collaborations between musicians from different backgrounds”
