“UPON REQUEST”
“314 action is dedicated to recruiting, training, and promoting scientists and stem (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) professionals to public office and advocating for evidence-based policy. Formed in june 2016, 314 action has an engaged grassroots network of five million supporters in every part of the country. 314 action is leading the charge to promote scientific and evidence-based policy makers. As the only organization of its kind, 314 action is one of the most impactful organizations in the science advocacy realm. 2020 was a uniquely challenging year for many organizations, including 314 action. The global covid-19 pandemic altered many of the organization's core programs. In a typical year, 314 action would visit college campuses to interact with science advocacy clubs and groups, attend national scientific conferences, host science advocacy panels, and organize non-partisan candidate trainings. Unfortunately, all 2020 campus visits, conferences, and in-person training meetings were cancelled due to public health concerns. In 2020, 314 action continued the podcast "clean air" for scientists, stem thought leaders, and elected officials to share best practices and advocate for their work. Due to the covid-19 pandemic the podcast and in person meetings with guests were no longer an option. So, we created a facebook live series - "ask the scientist." this series provided up to date information from scientists regarding covid-19 to our community. We used this as an opportunity to meet the moment and bring together experts in public health, epidemiology, and emergency care to educate our community and do our part to create a culture of listening to science. This facebook live series featured prominent leaders in public health and epidemiology, including dr. Vivek murthy - the us surgeon general, kathleen sebelius - former secretary of health and human services and governor of kansas, john hickenlooper - former colorado governor and now senator, dr. Barbara bollier - kansas state senator, dr. Ben abella - university of pennsylvania professor of emergency medicine, dr. Stanley perlman - professor of microbiology and immunology at the university of iowa, dr. Eric feigl-ding - epidemiologist and health economist at the harvard chan school of public health, and dr. Craig spencer - director of global health in emergency medicine at new york-presbyterian/columbia university medical center. Additionally, 314 action continued to fund research and polling and qualitative analysis on issues relating to science, public health and climate change. The novel coronavirus not only impacted the organization's programs, but it caused confusion, curiosity, panic, and uncertainty throughout the global community. 314 action observed the discussions about covid-19 and wanted to further understand the public's perceptions and questions about the pandemic. By conducting research and polling, 314 action recognized the need for accessible information and rapid response to combat the disinformation around covid 19. 314 action organized an informational facebook live series to answer the demand for factual information and to provide a direct channel between the public and leading voices in the scientific community. 314 action also used researching and polling to gauge the general public's perception of stem professionals in government. Among those results, 314 action also noticed that the public trusted stem professionals more than any other profession to handle the coronavirus pandemic. Two thirds of respondents said elected officials must have an understanding of science as the nation confronts the pandemic, and respondents also indicated disappointment with the current government's decision to eliminate pandemic response programs. 314 action also executed an organization-wide rebranding. In the years since the organization's launch, 314 action experienced exponential growth, from the grassroots community exploding from four hundred th”

| IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt | 0 | 314 ACTION IS DEDICATED TO RECRUITING, TRAINING, AND PROMOTING SCIENTISTS AND STEM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATHEMATICS) PROFESSIONALS TO PUBLIC OFFICE AND ADVOCATING FOR EVIDENCE-BASED POLICY. IN THE YEARS SINCE THE ORGANIZATION'S LAUNCH, 314 ACTION EXPERIENCED EXPONENTIAL GROWTH, FROM THE GRASSROOTS COMMUNITY EXPLODING FROM FOUR HUNDRED TH |
