IRS990/Desc0314ACTION (COMMONLY KNOWN AS "314 ACTION") IS A NONPROFIT FOUNDED BY MEMBERS OF THE STEM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATH) COMMUNITY, GRASSROOTS SUPPORTERS, AND POLITICAL ACTIVISTS. 314 ACTION'S GOALS ARE TO STRENGTHEN COMMUNICATION AMONG THE STEM COMMUNITY AND THE PUBLIC AND ELECTED OFFICIALS ACROSS AMERICA, TO EDUCATE AND ADVOCATE FOR AND TO DEFEND THE INTEGRITY OF SCIENCE AND ITS USE, TO PROVIDE A VOICE FOR THE STEM COMMUNITY ON SOCIAL ISSUES, TO PROMOTE THE RESPONSIBLE USE OF DATA-DRIVEN, FACT-BASED APPROACHES IN PUBLIC POLICY, AND TO INCREASE PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT WITH THE STEM COMMUNITY THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA.314 ACTION HAS CULTIVATED A GRASSROOTS COMMUNITY OF OVER 400,000 SCIENTISTS, STEM PROFESSIONALS, AND ADVOCATES WHO CARE ABOUT SCIENCE AND FACTS. SPECIFICALLY, 314 ACTION HAS HELD TWO NONPARTISAN TRAININGS FOR SCIENTISTS AND STEM PROFESSIONAL WHO ARE INTERESTED IN RUNNING FOR OFFICE. ON MARCH 14, 2017, 314 ACTION HELD A NON-PARTISAN CANDIDATES WEBINAR TRAINING. THERE WERE OVER 1,000 PARTICIPANTS. DURING THIS WEBINAR, POTENTIAL CANDIDATES WERE GIVEN ACCESS TO INDUSTRY EXPERTS WHO SPOKE ON TOPICS RANGING FROM LEGAL AND COMPLIANCE, MESSAGING AND COMMUNICATION, TO FUNDRAISING AND VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT. ADDITIONALLY, POTENTIAL CANDIDATES HEARD FROM A WIDE RANGE OF CURRENT AND FORMER ELECTED OFFICIALS WHO ARE ALSO SCIENTISTS.ON APRIL 20TH, 2017, 314 ACTION HOSTED ITS FIRST IN PERSON NON-PARTISAN TRAINING FOR CANDIDATES IN WASHINGTON DC. THIS ONE-DAY TRAINING CONSISTED OF A MORNING OF PANEL DISCUSSIONS WITH CURRENT AND FORMER ELECTED SCIENTISTS, CONSULTANTS, AND ADVOCACY EXPERTS. THE AFTERNOON WAS DIVIDED INTO TWO SEPARATE TRACKS: POTENTIAL CANDIDATES AND SCIENCE ADVOCATES. THE POTENTIAL CANDIDATES PARTICIPATED IN SESSIONS THAT INCLUDED MESSAGING AND MASS COMMUNICATION, FUNDRAISING, AND GRASSROOTS BUILDING. THE SCIENCE ADVOCATES PARTICIPATED IN SESSIONS THAT INCLUDE SOCIAL MEDIA, COALITION BUILDING, AND GRASSROOTS ADVOCACY. THESE TRAININGS ARE A SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITY FOR THE ORGANIZATION. THEY DIRECTLY HELP 314 ACTION COMMUNICATE WITH POTENTIAL FUTURE OFFICIALS. THESE TRAININGS HELP PROMOTE THE RESPONSIBLE USE OF DATA-DRIVEN, FACT-BASED APPROACHES IN PUBLIC POLICY BY EDUCATING FUTURE LEADERS ON HOW SCIENCE HAS BEEN NEGLECTED IN CURRENT PUBLIC POLICY, AND WHAT THEY CAN DO TO CORRECT IT.MESSAGING AND OUTREACH IS ANOTHER AREA OF FOCUS FOR THE ORGANIZATION. ON JUNE 6, 2017, 314 ACTION HELD A PUBLIC FACEBOOK LIVE EVENT TO DISCUSS TAKING ACTION IN THE POST-PARIS CLIMATE AGREEMENT. US SENATORS, GOVERNORS, AND CLIMATE SCIENTIST PARTICIPATED. 32,000 PEOPLE PARTICIPATED IN THIS EVENT. SUBSEQUENTLY, 314 ACTION ORGANIZED A PETITION AND GATHERED SIGNATURES OF OVER 100,000 US CITIZENS TO THE PRESIDENT REQUESTING THAT THE US REMAIN IN THE PARIS CLIMATE AGREEMENT. ON JULY 12TH 2017, 314 ACTION STREAMED "SCIENCE TAKES ON THE GOP HEALTHCARE BILL." THIS WAS A DISCUSSION REGARDING THE ROLE OF SCIENCE IN PUBLIC POLICY AMONG SHAUGHNESSY NAUGHTON, CONGRESSMAN RAUL RUIZ, MD (CA-36), DON BERWICK, FORMER ADMINISTRATOR FOR THE CENTERS FOR MEDICAID AND MEDICARE SERVICES AND DR. BEN ABELLA, UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA, DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE. THIS STREAMED DISCUSSION REACHED OVER 20,000 VIEWERS. ON OCTOBER 23, 2017, THE ORGANIZATION HOSTED "314 ACTION AND SCIENCE AS FACT, A DISCUSSION OF STEM PRINCIPLES."THIS WAS A DISCUSSION REGARDING THE ROLE OF SCIENCE IN PUBLIC POLICY AMONG SHAUGHNESSY NAUGHTON, MATT BROLLEY, MONTGOMERY VILLAGE PRESIDENT AND CANDIDATE FOR CONGRESS IN IL-14, NANCY MCFARLANE, MAYOR OF RALEIGH, NC, AND OTHER LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIALS. THIS DISCUSSION REACHED OVER 10,000 VIEWERS. 314 ACTION IS ALWAYS TRYING TO REACH A LARGER AUDIENCE AND CONNECT WITH MORE ADVOCATES WHO SHARE 314 ACTION'S GOALS. IN ORDER TO INCREASE ITS BASE, THE ORGANIZATION PURCHASED MAILING LISTS AND SENT POTENTIAL SUPPORTERS INFORMATION ON CURRENT ABSENCE AND ABUSE OF SCIENCE IN PUBLIC POLICY. IT IS A MEANS FOR 314 ACTION TO EDUCATE A LARGER BASE AND INCR
