Mission

We believe in creating opportunity by building a network of community organizations nonprofits entrepreneurs small business owners and community members to revitalize under-resourced neighborhoods using an empowerment-based model of community engagement to bring renewal and restoration. Our model focuses on five key areas that define a thriving neighborhood: economic development housing health education and spiritual care. We are bringing businesses churches nonprofits and individuals together to make sure all our families and all our neighborhoods have access to each of these key areas.

PATH is community & economic development through entrepreneurship. PATH is a program of Square Mile Community Development that facilitates small business development in neighborhoods challenged by poverty & unemployment. We provide low to moderate-income individuals with the tools coaching and access to capital needed to transform their businesses and their communities.By developing an entrepreneurial core within a neighborhood we can impact nearly every facet of that environment and can bring about positive change in a shorter time with less spending than almost any other type of work. PATH focuses on minorities refugees women veterans and low-income individuals and has served over 70 clients free of charge.$0$25,000
Square Mile is dedicated to finding sustainable and long-term solutions to combat hunger and food insecurity in our region and to develop replicable models that can be utilized anywhere in the world. We are working with small local and urban food producers and food-related businesses in order to create a stronger local food ecosystem and economy. In addition to working on regional and local food issues we also distribute locally grown produce through our two urban farm projects as well as meat to under-resourced schools churches organizations and families. One of our local partners generously supplies us with F-1 Wagyu beef which we are able to provide to the community. Since 2019 we have distributed over 800,000 pounds of meat produce and dairy to our local community. We know that distributions do not solve the underlying issues but it helps our neighbors while we work toward more comprehensive solutions.We serve between 75-300 individuals per month.$0$25,000
At Square Mile we have a long-standing philosophy of paying it forward. It is our belief that if we have connections advice or information to share with other new or existing businesses we should do so. We advocate for holistic development on every level in rural and urban communities. We have over 25 years of experience working in multicultural under-resourced urban and rural communities both domestically and internationally. We specialize in cross-cultural relationships and communication poverty issues strategic community impact and development as well as urban farming small business development and community outreach initiatives. Our team has assisted other nonprofits businesses government entities and churches domestically and internationally to develop and implement strategies to be more effective in reaching their goals and building their communities. We have served over two dozen organizations over the past year.$0$20,000
n February of 2022 Square Mile Community Development partnered with two other local organizations to open The PLACE. This facility is a collaborative effort between mi2 Refugee Language Project and We Find In Love. It is our region's first and only multicultural community center focused on international refugees. Our organizations saw a great need in our community to provide adequate and holistic support services to the different refugee groups in our community and took action to create a place to meet these needs. The PLACE is an acronym for the Place for Language Art Culture and Economic Development. The PLACE provides English classes meeting space computer and art programs educational opportunities and small business consultation through mi2's PATH Program. Square Mile's role is to help create new small businesses provide food support social work services and provide cultural and language support each week.
