THE ORGANIZATION HAS INVESTED 400 HOURS IN ROBOTICS AND COMPUTER SCIENCE INITIATIVES SUCH AS FIRST ROBOTICS AND THE AMAZON FUTURE ENGINEER PROGRAM ALONGSIDE 200 HOURS FOCUSED ON ADAPTIVE RECREATIONAL TRAINING THROUGH THE ARIZONA SPECIAL OLYMPICS UNIFIED PROGRAM. NERC ALSO ENGAGES NEURODIVERGENT MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS IN ITS ANNUAL STEAM FESTIVAL AND SUMMER CAMP PROMOTING THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THESE ENRICHING ACTIVITIES. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BANNER DESERT MEDICAL CENTER AND THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA SONORAN CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE IN DISABILITIES NERCS 13TH-GRADE STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN A FULL-TIME INTERNSHIP PROGRAM. THIS WAS AN INTENSIVE WORK AND SKILLS PROGRAM AIMED AT NEURODIVERGENT YOUNG ADULTS. THE PROGRAM OFFERS A YEAR-LONG EMPLOYMENT PREPARATION EXPERIENCE IN A REAL WORKPLACE SETTING RESULTING IN A 100% GRADUATION RATE AND 75% RECEIVING JOB OFFERS. FUNDED BY THE NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION OUR RESEARCH-PRACTICE PARTNERSHIP WITH ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY EMPHASIZED COMPUTATIONAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES FOR ALL STUDENTS BY ENGAGING 150 TEACHERS IN NEURODIVERGENT-AFFIRMING STEM PEDAGOGY. WE PROVIDED ESSENTIAL SUPPORT TO PARENTS BY HOSTING OUR 2ND ANNUAL NEURODIVERSITY STEAM FEST SHOWCASING INNOVATIVE EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES AND ESTABLISHING A SUMMER CAMP FOR RISING 6TH-9TH GRADERS ENRICHING THEIR STEM EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY.”
