“The ecological citizen's project, inc (ecp) works to grow citizen-led campaigns to produce a more just, healthy, democratic and sustainable way- of-life by educating individuals and communities about justice, health and well-being, civics, our ecology and the interconnections between them.”
“The ecological citizen's project (ecp) educational program provides educational activities in the form of classes, meetings and retreats for individuals and organizations and provides support for citizen-led sustainability campaigns by providing educational materials and educational activities relevant to the campaigns. These charitable and educational activities provide opportunities for individuals and members of organizations to learn about issues of the food system, civic engagement, social and environmental justice, participatory democracy, sustainability and/or civil rights. These classes, meetings and retreats are provided tuition-free or optional fee to individuals and educational materials are provided for free thanks to grant support and individual donations and are a charitable benefit to the public. This past fiscal year the ecp hosted public convenings and provided educational discussion, materials, and advisory support related to local civic engagement and democracy, climate change and carbon sequestration, food justice and regenerative agriculture. The ecp continued to support a local change campaign that promoted participatory democracy and civic engagement and reached 10,000 households in peekskill, ny. The ecp also continued to support a local climate smart community effort to measure the town of philipstown's greenhouse gas emissions, as well as to estimate how land use decisions impact carbon sequestration potential in the town. The ecp partnered with a local school district to hold a youth climate summit for middle school students from seven different schools in the hudson valley. The ecp partnered with a local non-profit organization to provide youth nature-based education during the summer of 2019, educating 20 middle school-aged youth from peekskill and garrison, ny about food, farming and regenerative agriculture. In response to the pandemic in march 2020, the ecp worked to secure additional funding to increase food production and distribution to address regional food insecurity issues. In addition, ecp personnel planned a series of convenings for summer 2020 that address food insecurity, regenerative agriculture and climate change. The ecp has created an educational curriculum and related materials relevant to living a more just, healthy, democratic and regenerative way- of-life and the curriculum and materials are available at no cost upon request. The ecp worked closely with iclei-usa and the town of philipstown to research and author a report on the town's greenhouse gas emissions and carbon sequestration estimates that will inform the development of a town- wide climate action plan in the fall/winter of 2020. The report is anticipated to be released in the summer of 2020. The ecp produces a podcast series, titled "next stop now," which documents how people change their lives in order to change the world and take positive steps toward sustainability, social and environmental justice and civic engagement. This podcast series is available for free for educational purposes so community members, college students, individuals and organizations across the region can learn from other people's lived experiences. The ecp also engages in social media communications through a curated social media platform which raises issues of justice, health, democracy and sustainability to a far- reaching audience. The ecp developed a new program called the regenerative communities program, which will launch in the summer of 2020. This program will seek to demonstrate an innovative model for community development in the hudson valley which gives a new generation of diverse farmers and ecological stewards the tools they need - purposeful training, economic security and access to affordable land and home - to do the regenerative work of building just, healthy, and sovereign communities of joyful abundance. The ecp is building partnerships with community organizations, landholders, elected officials, philanthropists and commu”
“Due to fiscal constraints, the two employees agreed to permanently forgo their compensation for the period of may 2019 through december 2019. They continued serving in their capacity as executive director and program manager, but strictly on a volunteer basis with no intention of receiving compensation for the eight months. In january 2020, when the organization was able to obtain additional funding, the employees resumed receiving reasonable compensation for the services they continued to provide. The hours listed are average hours devoted to their positions on both a paid and volunteer basis.”
