Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 11B

A copy of the form 990 is made available to the governing body for review prior to filing.

Form 990, Page 6, Part VI, Line 12C

Annually, all directors, officers, and employees of detroit fitness foundation are required to complete a conflict of interest statement which affirms any conflict that they may have with any related organization. These statements are filed with the executive administrator for review and placed into a file for record keeping. In the event of a conflict, the board chair shall, if appropriate, appoint a disinterested person or committee to investigate alternaives to the proposed transaction or arrangement. After the due dilligence, the board shall determine whether the organization can obtain, with reasonable efforts, a more advantageous transaction or arrangement without giving rise to a conflict of interest. If a more advantageous transaction or arrangement cannot be made the disinterested directors will vote on whether the transaction is in the best interests of the organization or not.

FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

The mission of the detroit fitness foundation is to provide low- or no-cost fitness opportunities for area residents. By providing affordable, often free, activities in a location that is safe and convenient, area residents, many of whom are economically disadvantaged, can opt in on living a healthier lifestyle that will improve their quality of life and reduce their health care costs.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Our primary fitness programming comes in the form of bicycling, specifically on the 1/10th of a mile indoor velodrome. We offer cycling classes and programs for beginners 3-6 years old, emerging riders 7-17 years old, and experienced competitors of all ages. During the summer, we offer free cycling camps, intending to teach all children how to ride a bicycle a skill they can do for their entire life. We also teach the campers as well as all of our youth about the history of the sport and share facts from detroit's cycling history that serve as inspiration and a role model. Nutrition and healthy choices are also part of the 4day sessions. In addition to the cycling, we also have dedicated space the eddie tolan oval for running, walking or inline skating. This 1/8th mile cement track is unique in the area, and a yearround option for starting and maintaining a fitness routine. In this space we also host health fairs, community gatherings, etc.
