By leveraging the collective knowledge of a diverse business pool, sbr offers members practical advise, inspiration, and access to tools that can be implemented to reduce environmental impact while achieving economic gain and risk reduction. We provide leadership to create competitive advantage and contribution to a thriving, sustainable future for the western new york region.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 28

Sbr offered 10 educational and networking events, centered around the 2022 educational calendar semester themes: upcoming regulations, electric vehicles, environmental justice, and circular economy. The events attracted 295 attendees in total. For the first time since 2019, sbr was able to host an in-person sustainable business summit. The summit was hosted at the powerhouse and attracted 188 attendees, engaged 18 speakers, and showcased 20 local vendors with an emphasis on small mwbes.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 29

The sustainable business roundtable's recognition program is a continuous improvement program structured to help businesses reach achievable sustainability targets. Built within the framework of bronze, silver, gold and platinum levels, the application both guides and recognizes sbr member businesses as they implement and maintain systems of sustainable business practices. The recognition program's requirements encourage companies to implement a comprehensive sustainability plan. This includes systematic benchmarking, identification of further environmental efficiency opportunities, and quantification of results when improvements are put into place. The 2022 recognition program received and scored a total of 14 applications resulting in three companies and one individual recognized in specific categories: most innovative sustainability project, community impact award and board of directors choice award. Additionally, in the past year alone, we saw 86% of our members, who submitted their annual metrics, achieve a bronze level or higher sustainability metric award.

Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 30

This year sbr was awarded a grant from the environmental protection agency to work on environmental justice in the west side communities of buffalo. From this grant, we were able to fund a second full time employee for the first time in the organization's history. This grant aligned with our goals set out in our strategic plan of increasing the capacity of sbr and connecting with more small mwbes in our area.
