DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Community-Based Educational Opportunities - SETpoint provided community-based education and support to a broad range of populations at risk for gender-based violence and sexual assault, specifically by providing empowerment-based self-defense coaching to over 570 participants across the following demographics: 1. Women in active addiction recovery, primarily from problems with opioids, as part of our ongoing support to the PA Organization for Women in Early Recovery (POWER); 2. Survivors of intimate partner violence who are clients and residents at the Women's Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh as well as in support of staff members and advocates at the shelter; 3. Women of color as part of group wellness sessions in conjunction with Vision Towards Peace counseling services; 4. Survivors of sexual violence in collaboration with Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR) and their therapy / wellness programs; 5. University of Pittsburgh students and staff members; 6. Elementary, Middle and High School students across a broad range of racial and socio-economic backgrounds with the Sarah Heinz House, the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania, and CMU Girls of Steel Robotics team; 7. Women's and LGTBQ / ally professional networks in Pittsburgh PA and Grove City PA. Pre- and post-session data across these populations demonstrate a consistent trend of increased self confidence and feelings of empowerment among participants.$0$11,659
FORCE (Foundations of Respect, Confidence, and Empowerment): Through generous funding provided by the Jewish Women's Foundation of Greater Pittsburgh, SETpoint developed and launched a new multi-session program called FORCE: Foundations of Respect, Confidence, and Empowerment. The curriculum offers a broad picture of "self-defense" that does not focus solely on physical resistance skills, but emphasizes empowerment training that helps individuals find their voice, project confidence, consider key aspects of healthy and unhealthy relationships, learn to interpret situations, and know that they have the right and the strength to act upon a situation for themselves or as bystanders. Each module includes learning aids and practice materials. Participants are given activities to complete between each module, including journaling activities that reflect on skills practice, observation, and reflection on reading and/or short video materials. Funding allowed SETpoint to develop these learning aids, including module booklets to go with each session and a series of short video tutorials to supplement in-person learning. Pilot sessions were offered to 28 participants in 2019.$0$5,238
Peer Coaching Program: SETpoint continued to develop a team of coaches whose life experiences mirror the diversity of experiences of the communities we support (Muslim Americans, Persons of Color, LGTBQ+ Communities, High School and University Students, Persons in Recovery, Survivors of Previous Assault). Coaches are compensated as independent contractors for their time, travel, expenses (including, as necessary, child care), and SETpoint provides equipment, supplies, and training. We worked with seven Coaches on the team in 2019.$0$1,493
