SELF-PRODUCED CONCERTS AND GALA PERFORMANCES:BRIDGING VOICES EXCELS IN PRODUCING YOUTH CONCERT PERFORMANCES, WHICH ARE AT THE HEART OF OUR PROGRAMMING. THESE PERFORMANCES GIVE OUR MEMBERS THE CHANCE TO SHOWCASE THEIR TALENTS IN A PROFESSIONAL SETTING WHILE GAINING INVALUABLE EXPERIENCE IN THE PERFORMING ARTS. BEYOND PERFORMANCE, OUR YOUTH LEARN VITAL SKILLS LIKE TEAMWORK, LEADERSHIP, AND CREATIVE PROBLEM-SOLVING, FOSTERING PERSONAL AND ARTISTIC GROWTH. THIS HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE ALSO INSTILLS A DEEP SENSE OF OWNERSHIP AND PRIDE IN THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS. OUR JANUARY 2025 CONCERT, "YOU AND ME" WAS HELD AT THE MULTNOMAH CULTURAL CENTER, AND HAD ONE OF THE LARGEST AUDIENCES WE'VE HAD IN A LONG TIME - APPROXIMATELY 200 PEOPLE ATTENDED. ON MARCH 30, 2025, BRIDGING VOICES WERE GUEST PERFORMERS AT A SOLD-OUT CONCERT PRESENTED BY THE PORTLAND GAY MEN'S CHORUS, THE PORTLAND LESBIAN CHOIR, AND THE PORTLAND PRIDE BAND. THE EVENT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS, WITH AN AMAZING SELECTION OF MUSIC AND CREATIVITY. IT WAS A POWERFUL EXPERIENCE FOR THE YOUTH. THEY FELT SUPPORTED AND SEEN IN THE CHOIR COMMUNITY, AND SOME WERE OVERCOME WITH EMOTION. THESE CONNECTIONS OFFER OUR YOUTH POWERFUL EXAMPLES OF QUEER JOY, RESILIENCE, AND COMMUNITY BEYOND OUR OWN ORGANIZATION.OUR JUNE 2025 CONCERT, "QUEER DELIGHT" WAS A SMALLER, MORE INTIMATE CONCERT AT THE COMMUNITY MUSIC CENTER IN SE PORTLAND. OUR INTERIM VOLUNTEER ARTISTIC DIRECTOR DID A WONDERFUL JOB LEADING THE YOUTH IN A MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE.OUR CHOIR ALSO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM WITH A HEADLINER MUSICIAN, FRENCHIE DAVIS, AT THE PORTLAND PRIDE FESTIVAL ON JULY 20TH. THE DAY BEFORE, THE KIDS MET MS. DAVIS AND OUR ARTISTIC DIRECTOR WORKED WITH HER ON DECIDING THE SONGS THEY WOULD PERFORM TOGETHER. ONE OF THE SONGS WAS UNKNOWN PREVIOUSLY TO MANY OF THE KIDS, AND THEY REALLY CONCENTRATED ON LEARNING THE SONG IN JUST ONE HOUR. AFTER MARCHING IN THE PARADE IN THE MORNING, THE YOUTH JOINED MS. DAVIS AT THE END OF HER SET ON THE SOUTH STAGE, SINGING "LOVELY DAY AND "SEASONS OF LOVE." IT WAS A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE AND THE KIDS APPRECIATED THE CHANCE TO SING WITH A PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN.$20,334$47,014
COMMUNITY OUTREACH: IN ADDITION TO OUR SELF-PRODUCED CONCERTS, BRIDGING VOICES IS DEEPLY ENGAGED IN THE COMMUNITY, PERFORMING AT VARIOUS LOCAL AND NATIONAL EVENTS. NOTABLE PERFORMANCES INCLUDE THE PFLAG BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND THE SINGING IN THE PORTLAND CENTER STAGE LOBBY DURING A PLAY INTERMISSION.THESE PERFORMANCES OFFER OUR YOUTH UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES TO CONNECT WITH LARGER AUDIENCES AND REPRESENT LGBTQ+ VISIBILITY AND INCLUSION. THEY ALSO PROVIDE A VITAL PLATFORM FOR EXPANDING OUR REACH AND INTRODUCING NEW COMMUNITIES TO BRIDGING VOICES. BY SHOWCASING THE TALENTS OF OUR SINGERS, WE FOSTER A BROADER SENSE OF INCLUSIVITY AND PRIDE WHILE CREATING LASTING CONNECTIONS WITH OTHER QUEER AND TRANS INDIVIDUALS AND ALLIES.$2,955$8,414
MEMBERSHIP: MEMBERSHIP IN BRIDGING VOICES IS OPEN TO ALL QUEER, TRANS, AND ALLIED YOUTH AGED 13 TO 21, WITHOUT THE NEED FOR AN AUDITION. OUR INCLUSIVE MODEL ENSURES THAT ALL YOUTH, REGARDLESS OF MUSICAL BACKGROUND, HAVE A SPACE TO BELONG. WE HAD 30 YOUTH ENROLLED IN JANUARY 2025. OUR SINGERS REPRESENT A DIVERSE RANGE OF MIDDLE SCHOOLS, HIGH SCHOOLS, AND COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES FROM ACROSS THE PORTLAND METRO AREA.THIS STEADY GROWTH REFLECTS OUR ONGOING COMMITMENT TO INCLUSIVITY, AS WELL AS THE IMPACT OF OUR PROGRAM IN FOSTERING A STRONG AND SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY FOR LGBTQ+ YOUTH.$2,465$6,862
DURING A FEW MONTHS OF FINANCIAL STRESS AND BOARD RESTRUCTURING FROM APRIL-JUNE 2025, THE LEADERSHIP TEAM MADE SURE THAT THE YOUTH AND REGULAR SUNDAY REHEARSALS WERE A PRIORITY. WE ALSO HELD A SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISER, RECRUITED 4 NEW BOARD MEMBERS AND UPDATED STAFF CONTRACTS AND BYLAWS WITH THE HELP OF OUR NEW ATTORNEY. WE HAVE COME BACK STRONGER AND WE ARE HOPEFUL FOR A SUCCESSFUL 2025-26 SEASON. OUR MEMBERS DEVELOP CONFIDENCE, LEADERSHIP SKILLS, AND AUTHENTIC SELF-EXPRESSION THROUGH THEIR TIME WITH US. MANY OF OUR SINGERS USE THEIR EXPERIENCE IN THE CHORUS AS A FOUNDATION TO GROW THEIR ORGANIZATIONAL AND LEADERSHIP ABILITIES, BECOMING STRONG ADVOCATES FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR COMMUNITIES. HERE ARE TWO RESPONSES FROM YOUTH WHEN ASKED THIS QUESTION: "HOW HAS BRIDGING VOICES INFLUENCED YOU?""IT'S GIVEN ME ANOTHER HOME AND HELPED RAISE ME INTO WHO I AM TODAY, A PROUD NON-BINARY TRANSMASCULINE HUMAN AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER, AND COULDN'T IMAGINE MYSELF AT THIS POINT WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF BRIDGING VOICES AND THE COMMUNITY IT HAS GIVEN ME." - EAST (HE/HIS)"I JOINED BRIDGING VOICES TO FIND COMMUNITY. I'VE ALWAYS STRUGGLED WITH FEELING ISOLATED, AND BRIDGING VOICES WAS A WONDERFUL WAY FOR ME TO CONNECT WITH OTHER QUEER PEOPLE IN AN ACCEPTING SPACE. I ALSO LOVE SINGING!" - ASTER (THEY/THEM)$0$0
