“The purposes of this organization are: 1. To assist the hospital in providing the best possible care to all patients who are admitted to or treated in any of the hospital's facilities; 2. To set forth the process by which practitioners can apply for medical staff membership and clinical privileges and the obligations and requirements associated with medical staff membership and clinical privileges; 3. To serve as the primary means of reviewing and reporting to the board of directors of the hospital concerning the appropriateness of the medical performance, clinical competence, and ethical conduct of members of the medical staff or others exercising clinical privileges at the hospital and advising the board concerning efforts to improve the quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness of health care provided at the hospital; 4. To provide a means through which the medical staff and other practitioners may participate in the hospital's policy making and planning processes; and 5. To provide a formal mechanism for practitioners to communicate with the hospital administration and board of directors on issues affecting the provision of health care at the hospital.”
