Mission

Madison community policing foundation seeks to accomplish three primary goals: support, both financially and with volunteers, any community policing activities or events which bring police officers, youth, adults, and elderly together; honor those men and women police officers working in our communities today, and those who have served our communities in the past; and grow the relationship between local police and our communities.

COMMUNITY POLICING ACTIVITIES PROGRAM - IN LATE 2018, MCPF BEGAN PROVIDING MPD WITH NUMEROUS $500 "COMMUNITY POLICING" VISA GIFT CARDS (OVER $12,000 SO FAR). THE VISA GIFT CARDS ARE KEPT AT MPD DISTRICT STATIONS SO THAT OFFICERS HAVE ACCESS TO THEM THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THE PURPOSE OF THE VISA GIFT CARDS IS TO GIVE OFFICERS THE ABILTY TO SEEK COMMAND OFFICER APPROVAL AND USE THE CARD TO FUND LOW COST, HIGH IMPACT COMMUNITY POLICING ENGAGEMENTS. THE MPD'S CORE TEAM OVERSEES THE FISCAL MANAGEMENT OF THESE "COMMUNITY POLICING" VISA GIFT CARDS AND REPORTS BACK TO MCPF. ON THE ACTIVITIES FUNDED (PIZZA, FOOD, BEVERAGES, PICNICS, COOK OUTS, ETC.). MCPF PROVIDED A COMMUNITY POLICING VISA GIFT CARD TO CHIEF KRISTEN ROMAN AND THE UW-MADISON POLICE DEPARTMENT IN THE FALL OF 2019 TO HELP FUND THEIR "TULIP PROJECT" ON CAMPUS TO BRING AWARENESS DURING MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK. IN JANUARY 2019, THE MADISON POLICE DEPARTMENT'S CORE TEAM PUBLISHED AN ANNUAL REPORT ON THE CORE TEAM'S ACTIVITIES FOR THE PAST YEAR. MCPF IS PROMINENTLY RECOGNIZED IN THE REPORT AND HELPED SUPPORT MANY OF THE ACTIVITIES LISTED IN THE REPORT.$11,831$28,298
COMMUNITY READ PROGRAM - 2019 REPRESENTED THE THIRD FULL YEAR OF OPERATIONS FOR THE MADISON COMMUNITY POLICING FOUNDATION (MCPF). MCPF CONTINUES TO SUCCESSFULLY RAISE FUNDS TO SUPPORT SEVERAL COLLABORATIONS AND ACTIVITIES WHICH BRING TOGETHER POLICE OFFICERS AND THE COMMUNITY. MCPF PROVIDED OVER $40,000 IN DIRECT AND INDIRECT SUPPORT TO THE CITY OF MADISON POLICE DEPARTMENT'S (MPD) COMMUNITY POLICING EFFORTS IN 2019. AT THE END OF 2018, MPD LT. MIKE HANSON REQUESTED DONATIONS FOR A "COMMUNITY READ" INITIATIVE. IN THE SUMMER OF 2019, MCPF HELPED ORGANIZE AND SPONSOR A "PILOT" COMMUNITY READ IN THE MPD'S WEST POLICE DISTRICT. MCPF EXPENDED $18,965 ON THIS INITIATIVE WHERE CURRENT AND RETIRED TEACHERS AND READING PROFESSIONALS WERE PAID TO PROVIDE ONE TO ONE TUTORING FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL AT RISK YOUTH. YOUTH ALSO RECEIVED A STIPEND BASED UPON THE NUMBER OF READING SESSIONS THEY ATTENDED.
