IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0IN 2022, MLK-CDC RECEIVED A $25,000 GRANT FOR THE MLK OUTPATIENT CENTER ("MLK-OPC") TO CONTINUE PROVIDING CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING, PAP SMEAR AND MAMMOGRAMS. INFLUENZA VACCINES, HIV TESTING AND PRE-EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS EDUCATION AND SUPPORT IS PROVIDED. THE MLK-OPC ADMINISTERED OVER 22,000 COVID-19 VACCINES, 13.000 WOMEN'S HEALTH-SPECIFIC VISITS INCLUDING BREAST CANCER SCREENINGS. MLK-OPC EXPANDED ITS CANCER PREVENTION WITH EDUCATION AND WELLNESS COMMUNITY OUTREACH TO VULNERABLE POPULATIONS. MLK-CDC WORKS WITH THE MEDICAL STAFF TO IDENTIFY GRANT OPPORTUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. ON MARCH 31, 2022, MLK-CDC TRANSFERRED $31,102 TO THE LAC+USC MEDICAL CENTER FOUNDATION ("LAC+USC FOUNDATION"). THESE UNSPENT (CONT SCH O) FUNDS WERE RELATED TO TWO GRANT AWARDS TO SUPPORT THE MLK-OPC PARTICIPATION IN THE ADDICTION TREATMENT STARTS PROGRAM. THE TRANSFER OF THESE FUNDS WAS APPROVED AND SUPPORTED BY THE GRANTOR SINCE THE LAC+USC FOUNDATION WAS ALREADY A SUB-GRANTEE OF THE TWO AWARDS.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0MLK-CDC WORKS CLOSELY WITH THE CHARLES R. DREW UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND SCIENCE ("CDU") LOCATED ON THE MLK MEDICAL CAMPUS TO EXPAND ITS UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM AND IMPROVE ITS ADMINISTRATIVE AND TEACHING FACILITIES. THE MLK-CDC HAS PROVIDED GUIDANCE ON REDEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES THAT WILL INCLUDE BIO-MED LABS, UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT AND FACULTY HOUSING. IT INTRODUCED CDU TO FUNDING SOURCES FOR DEVELOPMENT OF A MASTER PLAN AND FACILITATED PARTNERSHIPS BETWEEN CDU AND EXISTING HEALTH CARE ENTITIES INCLUDING THE MLK PEDIATRIC CLINIC. IN 2021, CDU RECEIVED $50 MILLION FROM THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO SUPPORT THE UNIVERSITY IN ITS QUEST TO ESTABLISH A FOUR-YEAR MEDICAL DEGREE PROGRAM AND A BUILDING TO HOUSE IT. IN FEBRUARY 2022, CDU RECEIVED A $20 MILLION DONATION FROM A MAJOR PHILANTHROPIST(CON SCH O) THAT WILL PROVIDE RESOURCES TO SUPPORT AND ENHANCE EDUCATION, RESEARCH, CLINICAL SERVICE AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. MLK-CDC, IN 2020, ASSISTED IN FACILITATING A GROUND LEASE FROM LA COUNTY THAT WAS FINALIZED IN 2021 FOR A GRAND ENTRANCE FOR THE UNIVERSITY ON 120TH STREET; AND IS CONTINUING TO ASSIST THE UNIVERSITY IN A GROUND LEASE WITH THE COMPTON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT AND LA COUNTY FOR AN 11-ACRE PARCEL FOR STUDENT HOUSING, LABS, CLASSROOMS AND AN ATHLETIC FIELD.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0THE MLK-CDC WAS INVOLVED IN THE ADAPTIVE RE-USE OF THE FORMER KING-DREW HOSPITAL (500,000 SQ. FT. BUILDING) THAT CLOSED IN 2007. GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY WAS HELD IN OCTOBER 2019 AND CONSTRUCTION WAS COMPLETED IN LATE 2021. THE NEW MLK BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CENTER ("BHC") BEGAN OCCUPANCY IN EARLY 2022 AND IS EXPECTED TO BE FULLY OPERATIONAL IN 2023. THE BHC INTEGRATES INPATIENT, OUTPATIENT AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR LA COUNTY'S MOST VULNERABLE POPULATIONS; AND INCLUDES ENHANCED HEALTH CARE SERVICES FOR HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS, AND FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AND NEED MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES. SEVERAL THOUSAND RESIDENTS WILL BE SERVED ANNUALLY. LA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ALLOCATED $322 MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE RENOVATION OF THE BUILDING. WITH THE OPENING OF THE BHC IN 2022, MLK-CDC HAS ACCOMPLISHED ALL OF ITS GOALS FOR THIS PROGRAM. OTHER THAN WORKING WITH THE LA DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH IN IDENTIFYING FUNDING FOR PROGRAMS NEEDED BY THE NON-PROFIT ENTITIES THAT OCCUPY THE BHC, MLK-CDC ANTICIPATES THAT IT WILL HAVE NO OTHER INVOLVEMENT. THE GOALS INTENDED BY THE MLK-CDC FOR THE ADAPTIVE RE-USE OF THE FORMER KING-DREW HOSPITAL WERE ACHIEVED BY THE END OF 2022 AND NO ADDITIONAL PROGRAM SERVICES ARE ANTICIPATED.
