Gilpin county has the fastest aging population in colorado, as well as a recent influx of young families at or below poverty. This combination of socio-economic and geographic features puts county residents health and safety at risk. In january 2020, the holistic homestead opend the homestead market, a small co-operative market featuring fresh organic produce, local meat, bulk dry goods, herbs and spices, and other healthy products. The homestead market features a pay-what-you-can cafe that provides for healthy, fresh meals to the community. The holistic homestead also offers a community food share program where its members can obtain a monthly produce selection for a small fee. The holistic homestead also holds the gilpin county farmers market each summer at the gilpin county fairgrounds, as well as attends other local farmers markets. The holistic homestead periodically holds free community meditation events as well as provides education on health literacy through various means.”
