“Global justice media program - our internal media program over 2020 included interviews with scientist, experts and advocates for natural forests. These interviews are stored on our audio portal so they can be included in press releases and other forward-facing communication. We have interviewed an organic chestnut grower sept 24, 2020; dogwood alliance spokesperson, sept 22, 2020; indigenous environmental network, sept 1, 2020; anne petermann, aug. 31, 2020; dr. Rachel smolker, aug. 5, 2020; former tacf chapter presidentaug. 4, 2020. The interviews can be found at https://stopgetrees.org/media/. We also published several articles and editorials: july 10, 2020, moms across america, in reconsidering normalcy genetically engineered trees do not belong. February 26, 2020, daily orange, genetically engineered trees a risk to the environment. January 2020, the family farm defender, the newest fight to keep genetically engineered trees out of forests.november 23, 2019, moms across america, genetically engineered american chestnut tree: a risk not worth taking. Our earth radio interviews and commentaries continued to run weekly on kpfk pacifica radio los angeles on the nationally syndicated sojourner truth show. These can be found at https://globaljusticeecology.org/earth-radio”
“Campaign to stop genetically engineered trees - in august of 2020, the usda published a petition to deregulate a ge american chestnut tree (d58), initiating a 60 day public comment period. Gjep coordinated and spearheaded the coalition effort to bring forth opposition to this petition, which resulted in historic numbers of people registering their opposition. The public comment period closed with 109 organizations representing millions of members, officially opposed to the proposal to plant the d58 ge tree in forests. Over 123,400 individuals also registered opposition to the ge tree during the public comment period. Another 400+ organizations endorse a full global ban on the release of all ge trees into the environment. Gjep coordinated and implemented an aggressive media campaign which included 5 press releases to 1,000 reporters and 3 press releases to the list of the society of environmental journalists. This has paid off in more of our concerns and links to the white paper making it into articles about the ge chestnut. We organized an online press conference on october 20, 2020 to address the closing of the public comment period. Representatives of five organizations spoke out against the deregulation of this unprecedented ge tree: anne petermanninternational coordinator, campaign to stop ge trees; bj mcmanamacampaign organizer, indigenous environmental network; scot quarandacommunications director, dogwood alliance; dana perlsfood and technology program manager, friends of the earth; and lucy sharrattcoordinator, canadian biotechnology action network.”
“Biofuelwatch - biofuelwatch continues to engage with the stay grounded network, providing input on the development of icao corsia standards which would create a large global scale carbon offset scheme and a vast new market for aviation grade biofuels. We have prepared several briefings on aviation biofuels, highlighting the role of palm oil and palm oil derivatives (pfad) as the most likely feasible feedstock for scaling up in significant manner. We are also very active in the home campaign steering committee as well as on the north american climate geoengineering coordinating group. We monitor and respond to policy supports for beccs, as well as the mix of so called carbon dioxide removal (cdr) technologies, so called nature based solutions, net zero commitments and other insidious and convoluted proposals to use forests, ecosystems, technofixes and accounting trickery to enable continuing fossil fuel pollution. Ipcc reviews: over the past several years we have served as reviewers for the ipcc reports on achieving 1.5 degrees and on the land sector mitigation in 2019 and 2020. Inputs have focused on biofuels, beccs, forests and biochar.”
