The primary purpose of Immanuel Lutheran Communities (DBA) is to maintain and operate a continuing care retirement community that provides housing and services required by the elderly, designed to maintain the physical well being of the residents including the provision of such specialized services as meals, housekeeping, laundry, transportation, social activity programs and security. ILC is committed to a policy of maintaining in residence any person who becomes unable to pay their regular charges by seeking funds from local and federal welfare units, soliciting funds from its sponsoring organization, its members or the general public, or by some combination thereof.

A draft copy of the from 990 and the accompanying schedules are emailed to the Board of Directors prior to the Finance and Board meetings so that it can be reviewed. Any questions or concerns are addressed at that time. If all members are satisfied with the information, the Board votes to approve the document as presented.

Potential board members are screened for any conflicts of interest before being nominated to fill seats on the Immanuel Lutheran Communities board. New board members are oriented prior to assuming their roles on the board. All board members are required to complete a conflict of interest form annually at the October BOD meeting. The executive committee of the board reviews the completed forms for compliance.

CEO compensation is researched and negotiated by the Board of Directors. A written contract between the board and the CEO is in force and reviewed annually as part of the performance evaluation. The CEO is the only employee that is under contract and evaluated by the BOD.

Form 990, Part XI, Line 9

ILC entered into an interest rate swap agreement to reduce the impact of changes in interest rates on its variable rate long-term revenue bonds. The agreement effectively changed our interest rate exposure on $14,000,000 of variable rate revenue bonds due December 2021 to a fixed rate of 4.52%. The interest rate swap agreement matures at the same time the related revenue bonds mature. The fair market value of the agreement is $924,972 (a decrease of $28,181) as of June 30, 2015 is recognized as a liability on the balance sheet. ILC is exposed to a credit loss in the event of nonperformance by the other parties to the interest rate swap agreement. Under charitable gift annuity contracts, ILC receives immediate and unrestricted title to contributed assets and agrees to make fixed recurring payments over the stipulated period. Contributed assets are recorded at fair market value on the date of receipt. The related liability for future payments to be made to the specified beneficiaries is recorded at fair market using present value techniques and risk-adjusted discounts rate designed to reflect the assumptions market value participants would use in pricing the liability (an increase of $40,594) as of June 30,2015.

Schedule D, Part V, Line 4

In 1988, Immanuel Lutheran received $282,500 from the estate of Olga Helevna Stromset. Miss Stromset requested that income received on the principle invested be used for education and training of staff employed at Immanuel. In keeping with her wishes, ILC developed the following guidelines for the use of these funds: be an employee of Immanuel Lutheran, have an acceptable work record as documented by their supervisor, have worked for six months with a minimum of 720 hours in one year, be accepted for study in an accredited program and provide documentation of successful completion of course work to continue funding. Preference is given to those applicants whose degree or goal will allow them to fill a position at Immanuel Lutheran for which there is an anticipated shortage or need. The remaining endowments consist of individual funds established for a variety of purposes such as: maintenance of grounds, purchase of equipment, sponsor resident activities, Christ Cares Fund for employee assistance and such other needs to enrich our residents lives.

IRS990/Desc0Immanuel Lutheran Corporation of Kalispell, Montana was incorporated in the State of Montana on September 7, 1953. It is an affiliated social ministry organization recognized by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and its membership consists of those Lutheran congregations affiliated with the Montana Synod, but operates independently and bears sole responsibility for its fiscal solvency. As a not-for-profit corporation (DBA-Immanuel Lutheran Communities), it operates a 139 bed skilled nursing facility (DBA-Immanuel Skilled Care Center "ISCC"), a 16 bed rehabilitation facility (DBA-The Retreat at Buffalo Hill) and a 112 apartment independent and assisted living facility (DBA-Buffalo Hill Terrace "BHT). Immanuel Lutheran has grown into one of the largest continuing care retirement communities in the State of Montana. Program Services Accomplishments: ISCC and the Retreat provided 38,847 days of care to its elderly and disabled population. Immanuel Lutheran again was one of the largest providers of Medicaid long-term care in Flathead County providing 19,915 days of care. The short-fall between our cost to provide care to Medicaid recipients and the reimbursement received is estimated to be about $1,500,000 for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2015. Services provided to all residents are skilled nursing, assistance with activities of daily living, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social and recreational activities, pastoral services, meals, housekeeping and laundry. Buffalo Hill Terrace had a total census of 39,861 days for the fiscal year which equates to a 98% occupancy. BHT served on average 44 assisted living residents a day. Along with the assisted living, other services available to all residents are rehabilitative services, social and recreational activities, pastoral services, meals, housekeeping and laundry. Social Accountibility Report: In keeping with our Mission Statement, listed here are ways that Immanuel Lutheran serves the community in which we work and serve: Hosted 4 blood drives with Red Cross. Donated gift baskets to the Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp. Donated furniture to the Flathead Industries Thrift Store, to the Montana Veterans Home and to the SAM House. Sponsored and chaired the event for the "Walk to End Alzheimer's", purchased t-shirts and sponsored over 40 staff walk team partners. Purchased lunches in the "Neighbors in Need" fundraising Chill Lunch event. Members of the Kalispell Chamber and participated in the Annual Banquet Fundraiser. Provided meals for the 'Habitat for Humanity Build" project. Hosted all staff in-service programs that allowed for non-profit organizations to present to staff programs in the community that enrich and support their family needs. Host Care Giver Support Groups. Host educational groups for community members facing life changes due to a diagnosis of Alzheimer's or other related dementia. Host the community Children's Theatre to perform for the residents. Host summer concert events for residents and the community to participant in community performances. Donated gifts to CASA of Montana. Donated to "The Rotary Foundation Annual Fund. Led the "Financial Peace" class which was open to staff and the community. Organized ILC scholarships for community member wanting to become CNA's through the community college program. United Way Community program awareness "Shair Fair". Spent a day painting Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp building. Participated in the United Way combined campaign. Provided monthly dinner for the women and children at the Abbey Shelter. Sponsored an estate planning seminar with the Agency On Aging. A sponsoring member of the Hockaday Musemum of Art. Provided meeting space for community nonprofit agencies: Sons of Norway, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), Kalispell branch of the the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Association for the Blind and the MS Support Group.
