“Mea-mft restructured its board of directors in april of 2016, during the annual meeting of the mea-mft representative assembly, mea-mft's highest governing body. The following is a summary of the changes made by the 2016 mea-mft representative assembly: 1. Decreased the total number of board members from 34 to 22. 2. Eliminated stand-alone districts comprised of single local bargaining units. 3. Established 17 governance districts based on region, employer, and/or employment category. 4. Changed election procedures for board members to assure that all board positions are elected at the annual mea-mft representative assembly by their corresponding district representatives. 5. Maintained 4 statewide elected officer positions, including president, vice-president, secretary-treasurer, nea director, and a statewide at-large director.”

“Mea-mft has members who pay an annual membership fee. Individuals eligible for membership are predominantly those individuals employed with employers who have signed collective bargaining agreements with the organization.”

“All officers and directors are elected at the statewide representative assembly.”

“Decisions pertaining to constitutional amendments, standing rules, dues and budgets are voted on at the annual representative assembly.”

“Once the form 990 is complete, the president and executive director review the form for accuracy. The form 990 is discussed at the next board meeting following their review.”

“The organization updates the conflict of interest policy on an as needed basis. The organization has implemented written conflict of interest forms that members complete each year. Board members with a stated conflict of interest abstain from participating in the discussion and vote of the topic. The board meeting minutes reflect that the board member abstained from voting or taking part in the discussion.”

“The president's salary is determined by formula (250% of the ctas two years removed). The president negotiates the executive director's salary. The board of directors ratifies it.”

“The organization's governing documents are available on the organization's website, mea-mft.org, the conflict of interest policy is available upon request, the organization's annual lm-2 form is available on the department of labor, office of labor-management standards website, and all other financial statements and income tax returns are available upon request.”
