Governance Explanations

Lessee members are all persons who lease land or housing from the organization or who lease or own housing that is located on land leased by another entity from the organization. General members are all other persons 18 years of age or older, who live within fayette county and (1) qualify as an initial member as defined in the articles of incorporation, (2) submit a membership application, and (3) pay dues as established by the organization for each calendar year.

Every member of the organization shall have the right to cast one vote and/or nominate and participate in the election of the board of directors as provided by the bylaws; and to serve on the board of directors or on committees if chosen.

Every member of the organization shall have the right to participate in meetings of the membership, to cast one vote on all matters properly put before the membership for consideration, to nominate and participate in the election of the board of directors as provided by the bylaws, to serve on the board of directors or on committees if chosen, and to receive notices and minutes of membership meetings and annual reports of the organization.

Persons employed by the organization in a part-time or full-time capacity except those persons in non-exempt positions will receive a salary negotiated at the time of recruitment that will not be based upon an hourly wage. At the time of hire, new employees will receive a letter of hire, a job description, salary and benefits detail and a copy of the personnel policies. The magnitude of the work assignments and the full scope of responsibility for the position will be fully discussed at time of hire. In setting compensation, the organization may consider, among other things, experience of the preferred candidate, external labor market rates, similar jobs within the organization, and the organization's ability to pay. Each employee may be eligible for a salary review at the end of their first full year of employment and annually thereafter. The board of directors will determine the executive director's salary.
