Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Miguel Pro Mission supports 80+ students with a monthly stipend to help pay the expenses to stay in school, kindergarten through college. The program provides support for families to participate in the Heifer International, a program in which families can purchase small livestock to raise. The program also provides support on an as needed basis to fund projects such as adding indoor eco-bathrooms to homes.Miguel Pro Mission also works with other programs to support healthcare clinics, daycare and Montessori schools, as well as counseling and therapy to individuals who would otherwise not be able to afford it.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT is: "To reduce poverty and inspire hope for families in Juarez, Mexico by: 1) Providing community support; 2) Assisting with education of children; 3) Improving the living conditions via home building and repairs." Community support includes counseling and health services; Education includes supporting multiple private schools and tutors for public school students and paying expenses that public school students cannot afford; Improving living conditions involves providing construction materials for home repairs, additions, and new structures as needed.

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
This program was named Sr Mariana's Projects, after the founder, on our 2019 990 EZ form. The name she uses for this program is "Misión de Esperanza" or "Mission of Hope" which provides low tuition education for all ages 2 to college. Sr Mariana retired and now the program is administered by US organization (Our Lady's Youth Center). The stipend we provide covers a significant portion of school expenses for teacher supplies, school lunches, and equipment needed for school operation. There are three private school facilities supported at this rate in 2020: 1) a Montessori grade school for ages 5 to 14 ($36000), 2) a Day Care program for preschoolers for ages 2 through 4 ($11000), and 3) a monitored Computer Learning Center for High School Certification and College Credit program for ages over 14 ($5200). An additional amount of $14,944 was added in 2021 for cost of inflation. The school asks poor families to pay USD equivalent of $10 per month for one child in the school system and $2.50 for each additional child attending. Families can leave all their children of any age in a safe environment. The managers of this educational school system solicit additional donations for expenses beyond what our stipend supplies.$66,944$0
There were four additional program grant awards: 1) The "Home Building and Repair" project continued with a new management organization named Reconstuccion Casitas A.C. It is a Mexico based Civil Association that received a grant of $23,991 for the materials needed for the repairs. 2) A completely new home was built for a family with a grant of $28,714.28) a grant was giving to Miguel Pro Mission from Spirit of Christ Catholic Community, restricted to the initiation of a program called "Catechesis of the Good Shepherd" at the Montessori school. The amount of the grant to the school was $3,001.45) The Denver Archdiocese Mission Coop program was supported with a grant to a Peruvian Mission - amount of $2,000. The program service expenses were Accounting fees ($3,225) and the cost of a supervisor who inspected and reported back about the work accomplished ($1,500)$57,706$4,725
Santo Nino School and Clinic provides therapy for disabled children of indigent parents and also provides basic education both to the disabled children, to the extent that they are educable, and to their siblings. This enables the family of a disabled child (18 and under) needing therapy to also bring their other children of primary school age to the facility for their education as well. The initial grant award paid $3,000 for Montessori materials for the education of the disabled patients. Additional grant awards paid for a new roof ($4,000), for improved wheelchair ramp and accessible entryway ($11,000) and funds for expanding the educational programs for the families ($25,000)$43,000$0
The program was named Tonantzin Sisters' Projects on 2019 990 EZ forms and we continue to use that name. The Tonantizin Sisters have three community centers where they meet with supported family members every week. The expenses we subsidize include 1) books, school supplies, uniforms, school lunches, and tutors as needed for about 75 students in public schools of these communities ($25,000), 2) counseling and health services to the family members, some of who are aged grandparents and people with diabetes ($17,000)$42,000$0
This is continuation of the Food Bank project begun in 2020. The primary goal was to increase the amount of food at three existing food banks in various locations of Ciudad Juarez. Pandemic shortages continued in 2021 and the population of immigrants from Central and South America has continued to put a high demand on the food supply. The grant supports the long term residents of Ciudad Juarez who find the higher prices of food to be unaffordable. There are three locations all managed by the same organization, named Las Alitas, a subsidiary of Our Lady's Youth Center which is based in the US. They have a small group of members who cross the border to purchase bulk foods and organize volunteers to fill the boxes and hand them out every other week (with grant support of $500 - 26 payments). Our stipend covers the cost of about 50 of the approximately 500 families who are aided. Families apply, are interviewed and monitored periodically to assess their needs. Food boxes are even delivered to the homebound, elderly or handicapped, who cannot pick up their donation at the food bank location.$13,000$0

ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0Prior to the May 15, 2021 deadline, the organization arranged to get help from a CPA to do a Financial review for 2021. Therefore, form 8868 was filed and accepted by the IRS to grant extension to November 15, 2021. Unfortunately, that CPA has still not completed the review. An amended return will be filed if the financial review recommends any modification to this return.
