“Acorn's mission is to promote the growth and health of local food and agriculture in vermont's champlain valley.”
“We were able to return to our pre-pandemic revenue-generating projects that were cancelled in 2020: 1) the publication of the champlain valley guide to local food and farms and 2) the tour de farms. We continued with our third year of farmacy: food is medicine and served 65 families in the porter medical center and bristol mountain health center service areas who were facing food insecurity and diet-related illness, with a health care provider's prescription for a local farm share of fruits and vegetables, supplemented with nutrition and cooking education. Online market and food hub: we continued to research the viability of an online market for local food and learned that a physical infrastructure would be needed to aggregate and store the food before distribution. We also learned that a wholesale online market makes more sense than a direct to consumer market for our region. We began writing grants to support the launch of a wholesale online market and food hub infrastructure and were awarded the service provider strategy grant (20,000) from the working lands enterprise initiative to complete a feasibility study and business plan.”
