Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Educare is an innovative partnership between the public and private sectors to create a more efficient, more effective early learning program for children from birth to five years and to provide comprehensive support to their parents. A research-based program that prepares vulnerable young children to be successful learners as they enter school. A specially designed place that nurtures early learning and sends a bold message about the value of investing in the first five years. And a compelling platform to drive change among policymakers, business leaders and early childhood providers by demonstrating what quality early learning looks like.

Preparing every child, every day for success in school and in life.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 1A

The board of directors shall have full power to constitute such committees as it deems necessary or desirable to advise or assist it in the transaction of the business of the corporation. Each committee shall have only that authority and responsibility which is expressly delegated to it by the board of directors at the time the committee is organized or from time to time thereafter.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The form 990 is prepared by the organization's public accounting firm. A draft of the form 990 is reviewed by the executive director and the finance committee. After the review, the form 990 is presented to the board of directors prior to filing the return.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

All directors, managers, and employees have an obligation to avoid conflicts of interest, or the appearance of conflicts, between their personal interests and those of educare in dealing with outside entities or individuals, disclose real or apparent conflicts of interest to a board member or executive director, and refrain from participation in any decisions on matters that involve a real conflict of interest or the appearance of a conflict. Conflict of interest statements shall be signed by board members, policy committee members and all staff involved in the approval of financial and/or contractual actions, including purchases on educare's credit card. These signed forms are kept on file in the accounting office.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

An established salary scale for the employees is used. A compensation review of the salary scale is undertaken every other year. Compensation is related to college degree, work experience, and years on the job. Management reviews and recommends increases that go into effect the first full pay period in august.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Governing documents are on file and made available to the public and potential funders upon request, or as needed.

Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART I, LINE 6:

During the reporting period, 116 volunteers contributed a total of 752.93 hours of service across our programs, representing an estimated $13,179.35 in contributed value. This level of engagement reflects the strong commitment of families, community partners, and local volunteers to supporting children and strengthening families. Of these volunteers, 92 were parents or former parents, who contributed 580.78 hours of service valued at $10,505.25. Their involvement underscores the vital role families play in enhancing early childhood education. All volunteer activity occurred within a single site, demonstrating localized engagement and a strong connection to the community. The organization also benefited from the support of the foster grandparent program, a valued community partner. Senior volunteers provided consistent mentorship and classroom support, enriching the daily experiences of children through their care, attention, and wisdom. In addition to classroom support, parent volunteers contributed in leadership roles on the parent committee and policy committee, helping guide program planning and decision-making in collaboration with staff. Parents also offered in-kind services such as reading in classrooms, planning site activities, assisting with room decoration and setup, and assembling classroom materials. These contributions go far beyond numbers. They represent meals served, children nurtured, classrooms supported, and communities empowered. The organization is deeply grateful to every volunteer, family member, and partner agency who shared their time, heart, and energy to help build brighter futures for the children and families served.

FORM 990, PART XII, LINE 2C:

Educare has a finance committee that assumes responsibility for the oversight of the audit of the financial statements and the selection of the auditors. This process has not changed from prior year.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Management believes that educare of omaha, inc. Has appropriate support for any tax positions taken affecting its annual filing requirements, and as such, does not have any uncertain tax positions that are material to the financial statements. The organization would recognize future accrued interest and penalties related to unrecognized tax benefits and liabilities in income tax expense if such interest and penalties are incurred.
