IRS990/Description0AMERICAVIEW (WWW.AMERICAVIEW.ORG) IS A NATIONWIDE CONSORTIUM THAT FOCUSES IN SATELLITE REMOTE SENSING DATA AND TECHNOLOGIES IN SUPPORT OF APPLIED RESEARCH, K-16 EDUCATION, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, AND TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER. AMERICAVIEW'S MEMBERSHIP OBJECTIVE IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF REMOTE SENSING CONSORTIA IN EVERY PARTICIPATING STATE, SUCH THAT THE ORGANIZATION BECOMES A NATIONALLY COORDINATED CONSORTIUM OF LOCALLY-CONTROLLED STATE-LEVEL CONSORTIA. AS OF JUNE 30, 2013, 31 STATES WERE FULL MEMBERS, 3 STATES WERE ASSOCIATE MEMBERS AND 5 STATES WERE AFFILIATES. THIS TAX YEAR, AMERICAVIEW AWARDED BASE FUNDING VIA SUB-AWARDS TO 31 MEMBER UNIVERSITIES. AMERICAVIEW HAS MORE THAN 300 UNIVERSITIES, NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, AND STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AS STATEVIEW CONSORTIA MEMBERS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES.--AMERICAVIEW, IN COOPERATION WITH PUBLIC DATA PROVIDERS, CONTINUES TO INCREASE ACCESS TO PUBLIC REMOTE SENSING IMAGERY BY MAKING THE IMAGERY AVAILABLE IN STANDARD READY-TO-USE FORMATS TO PUBLIC AGENCIES, EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, AND COMMERCIAL ENTITIES IN MEMBER STATES. AMERICAVIEW MEMBERS HAVE ARCHIVED MORE THAN 117,535 GB OF PUBLICLY AVAILABLE REMOTE SENSING IMAGERY, AND OVER THE PAST FOUR GRANT YEARS, HAVE HOSTED MORE THAN 539,573 VISITORS AT MEMBER WEBSITES.--AMERICAVIEW GRANTEES (FULL MEMBERS) HAVE LEVERAGED EXISTING EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS TO DEVELOP NEW PROGRAMS FOR K-16 STUDENTS THAT INCLUDE BASIC STEM EDUCATION THROUGH ADVANCED REMOTE SENSING AND ALLIED GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION; EXPANDED REMOTE SENSING RESEARCH AT THE COLLEGIATE LEVEL; AND FACILITATED LONG-TERM AND CURRENT WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT. IN THE PAST FOUR GRANT YEARS, AMERICAVIEW MEMBERS TRAINED MORE THAN 23,307 K-12 STUDENTS; 1,608 K-12 TEACHERS; 2,366 MEMBERS OF THE CURRENT WORKFORCE; AND ESTABLISHED 27 NEW REMOTE SENSING COURSES OR PROGRAMS AT THE UNIVERSITY LEVEL.--AMERICAVIEW CONDUCTS OUTREACH EFFORTS TO HIGHLIGHT THE MANYBENEFICIAL USES OF SHARING AND APPLYING PUBLIC DOMAIN REMOTELY SENSED DATA IN A WIDE RANGE OF CIVILIAN APPLICATIONS, FROM TRANSPORTATION AND NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, TO AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION AND DISASTER RESPONSE. IN THE PAST FOUR GRANT YEARS, AMERICAVIEW MEMBERS MADE 330 PRESENTATIONS TO 10,545 ATTENDEES AT SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGY SHARING CONFERENCES, STATEWIDE GEOSPATIAL DATA MEETINGS, AND OTHER VENUES.

THE BULK OF THE FUNDS GRANTED TO AV ARE DISTRIBUTED TO ITS 31 FULL MEMBERS, ALL OF WHICH ARE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS THAT ARE TAX-EXEMPT UNDER SECTION 501(C)(3) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE. MEMBERS USE THESE FUNDS TO COMPLETE ANNUAL WORK PLANS THAT ARE APPROVED BY THE AV BOARD AFTER RECEIVING ANONYMOUS REVIEWS BY OTHER (PEER) MEMBERS, AND FOLLOWED BY APPROVAL FROM THE USGS. PROGRESS ON THESE WORK PLANS IS MEASURED BY SEMI-ANNUAL REPORTS THAT ARE REVIEWED BY THREE REVIEWERS, BOARD AND STAFF, AND REPORTS THAT ARE SUBMITTED TO THE USGS ON AN ANNUAL BASIS. CONTINUED FINANCIAL SUB-AWARDS TO FULL MEMBERS ARE DEPENDENT ON SATISFACTORY COMPLETION OF THE PRIOR YEAR'S WORK PLAN AND APPROVAL OF NEXT YEAR'S WORK PLAN. THIRTY-ONE DISTINCT FINANCIAL SUBAWARDS TO FULL MEMBERS HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED AND ARE MONITORED ANNUALLY VIA SF270S AND SF425S SUBMITTED BY THE 31 SUB-AWARDEE INSTITUTIONS.
