“Client Note 1 - SILICON VALLEY VISUAL ARTS, INC. 77-0498110STATEMENT 4 Part III, Line 28Program Service Accomplishments 2014-2015Silicon Valley Visual Arts, Inc. is an all volunteer organization managed by a volunteer board of directors and artist volunteers serving on various operating committees. Projects of the corporation include Silicon Valley Open Studios, SVTalkArt television programming on the public access channels, Silicon Valley Open Studios for Schools, SVOS Invitational exhibits, and SVOS University.During the first three weekends in May 2015, we produced the 29th annual Silicon Valley Open Studios event. During this free event for the public, 396 artists participated, showing and demonstrating their artwork at more than 150 locations throughout Silicon Valley, including Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. In 2015, we expanded our regional coverage to include several cities along the Pacific Coast. Thus, allowing more of the public to participate in this art education event. Each artist invites the public to visit their art studio or home to see demonstrations of their art techniques and methods and to view and discuss the artist's latest works. This allows the public to learn about art directly from the artists in a non-intimidating and relaxed environment and to become better educated about art. During the three weekends of this event, we estimate that more than 10,000 pieces of original artwork were on display to more than 8,000 visitors.Specific activities included program management using volunteer artists, marketing, advertising, public relations, collateral production, (including 40,000 copies of the Artist Directory) which were distributed free throughout Silicon Valley. We estimate that approximately 38,000 people received these free, four color, 64 page directories.Because our event is non-juried, Silicon Valley Open Studios is an incubator for young and emerging (or re-emerging) artists. This is an excellent opportunity for emerging artists, who have developed a body of consistent work, but have not yet shown it to the public, to participate in their first public event. This event is the primary vehicle that we use for communicating and attracting the attention of local artists and encouraging their volunteer efforts for our other community service programs. Our SVOS University program is a series of free seminars for participating artists that provide instruction on how to market themselves, how to promote and price their work, and how to prepare their studios for the public to visit, in addition to advice on how to interact with visitors. Last year, we expanded our program and added three additional sessions Seven Essential Steps to Launching an Art Business, The Gallery Relationship: Find it, Start it, Nurture it and How to Increase the Value of Your Work Through Custom Framing. We continued our two Social Media overview sessions describing what artists can do with their Facebook and Pinterest pages and Twitter accounts. We continued to offer these programs to artists who were not registered for SVOS 2015. This program is very popular and provides a means of helping artists advance their art career. Many of these artists do not have the marketing or business skills to promote themselves effectively so this helps teach them how to make the public more aware of the work they do to add beauty to the community. We began our SVOS Open Studios for Schools in 2007 and since then have attracted many of the local junior colleges and one high school district. We invite these schools to participate for free in the event for the purpose of showing student art and promoting their school's art programs. Three schools participated this year - Crocker Middle School in Hillsborough, Mission College, and Abilities United in Palo Alto, an organization that works with both children and adults with development and physical disabilities. We continued developing and presenting our SVOS (Silicon Valley Open Studios) Invitation”
