The Organization maintains there internal financial statements on the accrual basis.

Financial Statement Notes

Part II, Line 5: Summarized Policy

The OVLC monitors all Conservation Easements on an annual basis. Monitoring consists of a field visit, completion of a standard monitoring form, and photographs from established photo points. A summary report is then generated for the OVLCs records. If a potential or certain Conservation Easement violation is observed, the landowner is notified in writing and an effort is made to voluntarily address the violation through removal of the violation and/or restoration of damaged conservation values. The OVLC allows 30 days from the time the written notice is issued for a cooperative resolution or approved plan to address resource damage. Measures to correct a violation must result in the return of conservation resources to a condition equal to or better than the conditions prior to the violation. If a cooperative resolution is not achieved within the 30 day notice period, and agreed to in writing, the OVLC will initiate legal remedies. In cases where resource damage is permanent or restoration untenable, the OVLC will seek to replace this value on or off-site through protection of additional similar conservation resources owned by the violating landowner or through the purchase of this protection with funds received from the violating party.

Part II, Line 9: Organization Reporting of conservation easements.

Conservation Easements are logged on the OVLC balance sheet as a fixed asset at the nominal value of 1$. Conservation Easements are not reflected as revenue as they have no cash value. Current Conservation Easements are not shown as expenses. In the event that a Conservation Easement is purchased using funds held by the OVLC, an expense for that item will show on the Profit and Loss report as an expense with the asset later being moved to fixed assets at the nominal value. Costs associated with CE monitoring are shown as expenses.

Part V, Line 4: Intended uses of the endowment fund.

The intended use of the operational portion of the quasi-endowment balance is to generate returns to support OVLC operations. The intended use of the Ojai Meadows Preserve (OMP) portion of the quasi-endowment is to generate returns to support the management of the Ojai Meadows Preserve.

IRS990/Desc0The Ojai Valley Land Conservancy serves the public through permanent conservation of open space lands that serve to protect wildlife habitats, enhance public outdoor recreation, and promote outdoor education. This past year, hundreds of students visited OVLC preserves, and thousands enjoyed hiking, biking, and equestrian activities on the preserves. Projects completed this past year include the restoration of 3 local trailheads, construction of an all-weather path to a bird-watching pond on the Ojai Meadows preserve, trail care and maintenance on 25 miles of publicly accessible trails. The OVLC currently has 2,300 ares of conservation land and is actively working on new acquisition projects.
